Wild Birds: A Slip of the Tongue

The way this mockingbird is tasting the suet with his tongue I think I can safely say he enjoyed what he found at the feeder.

Yep, that mockingbird looks pretty happy!

He would enjoy the suet but he also had to work hard for it.

Well captured shot there Carletta and yes, not everyone realises that birds have tongues which perform much the same functions as they do for humans.

Quite an unusual capture. I think you are right-- he does seem to be checking it out before swallowing.

What a pretty bird. We don't have mocking birds here, so it really nice to see your photo!

Yum yum! We have our Spring mockingbird alarm back again this week. A lovely wake up serenade! (I was worried that he hadn't shown up yet this year... he's later than usual probably because it's been cooler.)

If I didn't know better, I'd say that's the same mockingbird that eats the suet here! :-) Wonderful shot! They can be so bossy.

With the things I've seen Mockingbirds eat, it's hard to believe one could be so particular! :)
