Signs,Signs I'm posting some of the many signs we saw that weekend. This first one is the state park sign in the middle of town. With blogger's new photo viewing I hope you'll be able to click and enlarge these for the best viewing.
This is the company store. Inside we enjoyed a snack after our train ride.
Our first stop on the ride was at Whittaker Station. I actually took this shot coming back down the mountain. The black smoke you see is from the steam engine.
I had taken this photo when we stopped to have a snack on the way up.
In one of my earlier posts I mentioned this piece of equipment but thought I would post a better photo of it. The centerpiece of the Whittaker recreated logging camp is this Lidgerwood tower skidder, one of only two examples left in the world. These huge railcar-mounted machines carried logs out of the woods on aerial cables high in the air and for distances up to 3,000 feet.
The train stopped at the Oats Run Waterhole to fill the steam engines with water.
We are almost at the top of the mountain. The bend you see in the track will bring us to the end of the trail.
Upon reaching the top of the mountain we will be at 4700 feet above sea level.

We saw most of those signs when we were in Cass, but we didn't get pictures of all of them.

You got lots of great signs on this trip! I particularly like the Bald Knob! And with the demise of almost all trains in my area, that old railway crossing sign was nice to see again.
I wish people here in LA heed that no crossing sign on the tracks. So many accidents.
I like to go on this ride and see the view from the top!
with this meme one is always aware to capture signs along the road, no matter how scenic it is.

Great series of signs! The sign for Whittaker really stands out against the smoke from the steam engine. I like the tree poles they used and the tower skidder.
I love the signs - but it was the skidder that caught my eye - with those gorgeous Autumn leaves behind it!!! How I would have loved to see this one in action!

This was a nice tour of Cass you took us on, Carletta. I especially like that the immigrants who built the railway were honored in the top sign. I wish today's migrants in USA were given more respect, too. :-)
