In posting for Sepia Scenes the last couple of weeks I've posted a train trestle (here) and a train(here). To further carry along the theme this week I've chosen an old railroad lantern given to me by my Dad years ago. He collected them and my Mom still has his collection hanging in the rafters of her garage.

When I was growing up we had some of those lanterns in the cow barn.

The sepia leaves a nice authentic look to these lanterns. An honest look, it highlights the imperfect metal finish. This is great, as these lamps aren't restored to perfection, but have a weathered look...like all they did was their job well...Nice!
I love how you have it rested on a doily. Along with the sepia, gives it that classic look.

Cool. My husbands Dad worked for the railroad and had some of those lanterns. When he passed we looked for some but found none - he must of gave them all away. Looks great in the sepia tones.

Very cool lantern, and a great choice for sepia. I really like that it's got a family history too.
This lamp takes me back to my childhood... there was railway tracks behind our house, when I train came we would listen for a certain whisle being blown.... if we looked out at night my uncle who road in the guards van at the back of the train would be waving a similar lantern..that was the signel for my dad and older brothers to check the track. My uncle would have throw hugh chucks of coal from the train... I guess in the 1960's these were very welcome. Thanks for the memories this post as given me.

I'm late posting this week, I got my days mixed up. It doesn't get any better than this for a sepia scene. It's the real deal.
