Weekend Reflections and LEM Photo Challenge - A Different Perspective

It's been rainy and gloomy here all week so reflections have been hard to find without the sun. Right now as I type this there is a rain and snow mix falling as evening begins to descend in my little corner of the world. I was out in the yard at the end of February when I took these photos of our small fish pond. I love the reflected stone of our water fountain. I hope you'll enlarge this to get the best view. When I sit and look at it intently I want to be transported to the fairytale world it seems to emanate from.

When I moved to the end of the pond and looked back I was able to catch the sky that had fallen into the pond and imagine that this was the scene the fairytale world was looking out at.

I took this back in June when my lilies were still in bloom. Here you can see them reflected in the small pond by our gargage. The wood siding is also reflected.

Sepia Scenes and Yard Art

A few readers may recognize The Incredible Mr. Limpet who appeared in my Weekend Reflection shot a few weeks ago (here). I took these two shots the same day as the reflection one. We inherited Mr. Limpet when we moved to this new home almost three years ago. He sits and guards the larger of two fish ponds in our yard.

Some of you know I am dealing with a knee injury and still haven't been able to venture far from my own yard so I've had to resort to what's at hand. However, after a shot in my knee today (YES, very painful) I hope to be on the mend much faster as soon as the headache and nausea from the shot goes away. :)

Mr. Limpet is in my pond!

For those of you too young to remember 'The Incredible Mr. Limpet' was a fantasy movie from the 60's that mixed real-life and animation. Mr. Limpet was played by Don Knotts. Henry Limpet's fondest wish was to be turned into a fish. As a talking fish he assists the US Navy in hunting German submarines during World War II. When I looked at the reflection Mr. Limpet immediately came to mind. I can remember lying on the floor of my parents living room and being mesmerized by his adventure.

The cold temps and snow and ice have been gone for a little over a week now and look who surfaced in the pond. This little pair came up from the bottom but they don't look like they're quite ready to stick their heads out yet. Or perhaps they're asking 'does this rock make our butts look big.' As I walked by yesterday I didn't see but heard a little frog plop into the water so the pond is indeed coming out of its long winter slumber. These sights and sounds are a wonderful prelude for what's to come and I can hardly wait!

Last Saturday I posted some photos of the horses I had seen on my recent trip to Sugarcreek, Ohio. This is an area filled with Amish farms. Traveling down one of the back roads I found a farm with a pond right beside the road and knew it would be perfect for a Watery Wednesday post. The next couple of days I will post more scenes from the area and Friday I will be showing more of these beautiful farms for Sky Watch.

Pond Reflections

This is one of two ponds in my yard. I'm sure you see one of the goldfish happily swimming around. Yes, a little weeding could be done; but I like the natural look and try not to make it look too perfect. In the reflection image you can see the garage window and a white star that hangs on the garage wall. If you enlarge the image look for the frog that is beside the rock under the tree.

The evening's sunset is reflected in the garage window reflected in the pond!

On a recent drive to find historic covered bridges we rounded a bend in the rural road and found this alpaca farm. At first when we pulled into the driveway they seemed a little anxious and kept moving along this fence line so I got out of the Jeep and snapped this shot quickly.

Ebony and Ivory munched on the tall grass in beautiful surroundings.


Ebony wanted a little camera time.

It was Ivory that hogged all the limelight - such a poser!

The Lilies Are Blooming

While out capturing yesterday's sunset post I noticed the lilies by one of the ponds were blooming and I snapped this photo at near sunset. Be sure to click on this one to enlarge and find the little surprise on the single petal to the left. He's a very light color so look closely.

Yesterday after a hard pouring storm the daylily looks almost like crepe paper.

This is the same lily in the first photo but after the rain. I was surprised by the pond reflection on the right when I downloaded this last night. I assure you it was a pure accident; but I was very pleased.

No matter where you are today I hope your skies are filled with sunny skies and not a raindrop in sight!

The Blue Heron and the Deer

Yesterday morning I left home to pick up a few items from the grocery store. As I passed my neighbor's pond I saw this idyllic scene. I was quite a distance away; but I managed to capture this little deer and what I believe is a Blue Heron. After I took this photo the Heron proceeded to walk to the nearby woods. The little deer began to follow. I watched the Heron come back out of the woods and they proceeded to have a staring contest. I guess little Bambi wasn't as familiar with this long legged creature as he was with the ducks and geese on the pond. This view of nature was a nice little surprise to start off my Saturday morning. It made the trip to the grocery store not seem so mundane!

The Heron is a wading bird and typically nests in trees or bushes near a body of water. So, I'm hoping this won't be my only encounter. The camera will be ready each time I pass the pond.
