Good Fences

This wrought iron fence with its stately stone wall is surely worthy of being the entrance to a medieval castle where Guinevere awaits her dashing Sir Lancelot. Cut the action! Pull back the cameras and reveal....

The fence and wall lead not to a castle on the hill but to a Hampton Inn Hotel newly built this past summer.
I have always loved this wall and fence. It stands in the city of Parkersburg, West Virginia and has been here for as long as I can remember. It's along a busy highway so I took these shots from the passenger seat this afternoon. There is an exact wall and fence on the opposite side of the street. On that side of the street is a very old cemetery. There were no graves on this side of the street and this summer digging and landscaping began. I thought perhaps it was to enlarge the cemetery. Instead a hotel went up.

  9. I can see why you like that wall and fencing. The design of the wall is so cool looking and it's a great fence as well. I like wrought iron fencing. I find it odd to build a Hotel near a cemetery though.

  10. Its a beautiful wall and fence; I guess the hotel could be someone's (small) castle for the day ;>). I wonder if the cemetery Assoc. (or whoever owns it) did used to own it and decided they wouldn't need it any longer. So many people are choosing cremation nowadays.

  12. That wall should be an eye catcher for people to check out the hotel.
