The fence and wall lead not to a castle on the hill but to a Hampton Inn Hotel newly built this past summer.
I have always loved this wall and fence. It stands in the city of Parkersburg, West Virginia and has been here for as long as I can remember. It's along a busy highway so I took these shots from the passenger seat this afternoon. There is an exact wall and fence on the opposite side of the street. On that side of the street is a very old cemetery. There were no graves on this side of the street and this summer digging and landscaping began. I thought perhaps it was to enlarge the cemetery. Instead a hotel went up.
Linking to Good Fences
interesting placement for a hotel. but i do like the stone wall and wrought iron fence topping it. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is one of the prettiest retaining walls I have ever seen. A lovely fence also.
ReplyDeleteWow - amazing fence.
ReplyDeleteLove the way the wall and fence are curving.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pretty wall and fence, it does not look like it belongs to a hotel.. Great captures. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteI like the wall and the fence.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm not quite sure about a hotel
with such a view ;)
Have a beautiful day

Nice! It looks very sturdy, but pretty too.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone's likes . Wall and fence.
ReplyDeleteThe Hotel I guess is lovely inside. One has to see inside I would presume. Might surprise us.

ReplyDeletethanks for sharing...

I can see why you like that wall and fencing. The design of the wall is so cool looking and it's a great fence as well. I like wrought iron fencing. I find it odd to build a Hotel near a cemetery though.
ReplyDeleteIts a beautiful wall and fence; I guess the hotel could be someone's (small) castle for the day ;>). I wonder if the cemetery Assoc. (or whoever owns it) did used to own it and decided they wouldn't need it any longer. So many people are choosing cremation nowadays.
ReplyDeleteSturdy and stately indeed. A great looking wall and fence.
ReplyDeleteThat wall should be an eye catcher for people to check out the hotel.
ReplyDeleteThe stonework is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love your imagination....and nothing makes a better fence than a combination of iron and stone...
ReplyDeleteGreat fence/wall, Carletta.
ReplyDeleteHope you all are OKAY after yet another storm.. I keep reading about WVa's flooding/storms. SAD..
Stay SAFE.
Hugs,
Betsy
That is a neat old wall and fence..too bad they had to ruin it's beauty with a hotel. Have a wonderful Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI can sure see why you love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the stonework with the iron of the fencing. nice shots today.
