Good Fences

Three weeks ago some of you may remember I posted a lovely stone wall with an iron fence above it that I felt was worthy of the entrance to a medieval castle (here). You might also remember it led to a newly built Hampton Inn Hotel. Hubby and I were again in the area this past week on a beautiful day when we were stopped at the stoplight below the hotel. This is a shot of the new metal fence that surrounds the hotel property above the fence in my previous post.
As you can see it was a gorgeous day to be out driving around, shopping, sky watching or fence hunting!!!

It's A Wonderful World

I see trees of green, red roses, too

I see them bloom, for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed days, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I hear babies crying, I watch them grow.
They'll learn much more than I'll never know

And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

May you all have a WONDERFUL weekend!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

CAPTURING THE SKY
Not many days of pretty skies lately. This was taken February 13th. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this kind of sky being the norm instead of the exception.

EVERYDAY
Enough said......

FURRY
The weather Saturday morning brought out all the critters to my yard. These little guys have been hiding this winter. I took this through a double-paned window and wasn't happy with it until I cropped it and added a texture. Now I'm glad I didn't delete the image.

LIFE (new life)
Saturday I walked around my yard looking for signs of new life emerging and found more than I expected. This is a macro shot of a bud on one of my bushes. I'm hoping it's not too soon. To see what the bloom will eventually look like click here.

Into The Wild Blue Yonder

Look closely. See that tiny speck near the center of the photo?
That's one of six.
Then there were five.
My hubby took me out for an early dinner on my Valentine Birthday. He then made a stop and picked up a Valentine Balloon bouquet. I know, sweet wasn't it! One more stop for a couple of purchases and a couple of movies from Redbox. I told my husband I'd go ahead and put the things in our Jeep while he retrived the movies. I opened the gate to the Jeep and put in one package when...whoosh....out flew a balloon before I knew what was happening. Hubby came out and saw the balloon and knew what had happened. He said too bad you didn't have your camera. I said I do; but before I could grab it quickly enough the brisk winds of the day had carried it a good distance. The first image is with my zoom lens as close as I could get it.
A very close crop.

This was taken a couple of Saturdays ago from my front porch. It was near sunset. The wild blue yonder was much bluer that day.

Taken from the back deck.

Skywatch: In Between Storms

(enlarge to see greater detail)
This was the view outside my sunroom window on Monday. The day before it was pouring the snow down and I was out in twenty degree weather trying to take snowflake shots. What a wonderful difference a day makes. Of course it changed right back the following day to snow flurries and overcast skies and we haven't seen blue skies since. For me this is a wonderful reminder of what a really beautiful winter day can look like.

Camera Critters: Feathered Friends

This was taken a few days before Christmas when the skies were clear and the sun was bright. It was taken through my sunroom window as most of my bird shots are. These eight little Mourning Doves were sunning themselves in the bare branches of my huge old oak tree.

Sky Watch: Through The Branches

The past couple of weeks we have had snow off and on. It snows, it melts, it snows again. I took this last Sunday. The snow and overcast skies of the previous days gave way to a beautiful crisp and clear day. Yes, the sky was this blue. This photo is straight out of the camera.
This was taken the night before after my daughter called from Virginia and wanted to know if I could see the moon because it was so large. It was right before sunset but the cloud cover was too heavy to see the moon. However, the clouds above the rooftop were very wintery looking.

Welcome to West Virginia

MY WORLD MEETS RUBY TUESDAY

Today is the launch of a new meme hosted by the same wonderful folks who bring you Sky Watch Friday. This new meme is for everyone who has a photoblog! With it you become a virtual tourist guide, showing all of us your part of the world: your celebrations, your landmarks, your home and neighborhood - your world! Since it also falls on Tuesday I will be combining a Ruby Tuesday post today where participants post a little bit of red or a lot of red.

So - here goes!
What better way to welcome you to my part of the world than by beginning at a West Virginia Welcome Center. This one is on the state line between my home state of West Virginia and the adjoining state of Ohio. When I took this photos one minute the sky was bright and the next it was cloudy.
This weathervane atop the center is the outline of the state of West Virginia. Not many straight lines here folks. We definitely have distinctive boundary lines! Wild and Wonderful West Virginia will be the focus of my My World posts in the weeks to come.
Today I'll start in my own neighborhood. This is a photo of a neighbor's beautiful red wagon decorated for the Halloween season. Regular readers might recognize it from a July post when it was decorated in red, white, and blue.

I hope you've enjoyed my little part of the world today. My virtual vacation of sights and scenes from around the world is waiting. Some of them will be of things red! If you'd like to tag along be sure to click the badges at the top of my post.

Sky Watch: Early Evening Moon

Traveling down the interstate after visiting my Mom on Monday I looked out the window to my left and saw a huge Autumn moon rising in the last light of the day. After exiting the interstate I took the first ridge I came to to try and find a high spot to take a photo before night descended.
About five minutes later grasses on a high embankment by the roadway framed the moon as darkness beckoned closer.
Coming to the end of the ridge there was time for one last shot over the mountains in the distance and time to head on home.

Sky Watch Friday: Front Porch Sunset

Last Thursday evening I was awarded this view from my front porch.
The view from the back deck was quite a contrast in color.

Today's Flowers

Just down the road from me is this field of yellow. Just a few months ago cattle were grazing in this field. Since taking the photos I noticed this week it is being mowed down. It was certainly beautiful for a little while.
