My Mom's Brownie Hawkeye

I can remember my Mom carrying this little square box around when I was a young girl. It would have been mostly during holidays or special occasions. Back then we didn't just take pictures to be taking pictures like we do now. Of course it was film that had to be dropped off or mailed in, picked up or mailed back and by the time you got them the holiday was long past. That was especially so if you saved a couple of rolls to have developed at the same time. This was taken this week at Mom's house. The camera sits on a shelf with many other mementos of times gone by.

This is a picture of my Mom during the time frame that she would have been using this little Brownie camera. I'm probably the one who would have taken this photo of her. Being the oldest had its perks. Not just anybody got to hold the camera. I wasn't quite a teenager at the time and as you can see not too adept at taking pictures. The picture was taken on Easter before we headed out for church. A few years later I recall that I too wore this suit to church on one or two occasions. Cherished memories caught by a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Camera.

Ruby Tuesday In The Fall

It's time for Ruby Tuesday with our host Mary of Work of the Poet. Mary suggested that if we had pictures of changing leaves to post them this week or next for Ruby Tuesday in the fall.
Just over a week ago I went to visit my Mom. She lives about forty-five minutes away and a little farther north. I took these first two images of the leaves on her maple tree. I loved the differences in the leaves on the same tree. The last one is of trees surrounding her now empty garden.
Be sure to click on the Ruby Miss Bug at the top to join in or see what kinds of red the other participants have posted for today.
Happy Ruby Tuesday to you all!

Today's Flowers: A Plethora of Petunias

I would like to dedicate this post to my dear friend Doris in Chesapeake, Virginia. Doris was my backyard neighbor before I moved last year. We enjoyed crafts and painting and going to bead shows to buy goodies for the jewelry we make. Our kids went to school together and we were PTA buddies and worked together part time for a little while. She has been my best friend for over twenty-five years and today is her birthday. Happy Birthday Doris! I miss you more than you know.

I took these photos last week when I visited my Mom. They owe their beauty to her.
(Be sure to enlarge to see the detail.)
I hope you'll visit my friends, Luiz and Denise, our wonderful hosts for the Today's Flowers meme. Just click on the badge at the top and see all kinds of beautiful blooms from all around the world.

M is for Mother's Day Photos

My daughter knew she wouldn't be with me on Mother's Day so one evening when I was visiting that week she brought home a bouquet of balloons. They traveled 500 miles coming home with me last week and are still floating with love in my sunroom where I can see them everyday as I sit and explore blogland.
Along with the balloons she gave me four pink rose buds. One bud for each member of her family - Cindy, Edgar, Baby Lily, and Winston - the Cat! Look closely. I will have these forever because they are wooden!
These beautiful tulips arrived in a box Friday. My son, Chris, had sent in these in time for Mother's Day on Sunday. You never know how flowers you order will turn out; but you can see that these are just beautiful!
M is for Mom
This is my Mom! I took this Sunday after dinner at my house. My brother and his family were here as well. Because I had lived in another state for many years it was the first time in many years that my brother and I were both with my Mom for Mother's Day. In the photo with her is my stepdad Frank. My father passed away over ten years ago and afterwards Mom met Frank and you can see how happy they are together. For those of you who have mentioned that looking at my profile picture I look too young to be retired you can see I got good genes from my Mom. She will be 73 years old the end of this month! I love you Mom!
