Red On Valentine's Day

Being that today is Valentine's Day I thought a couple of little red lovebirds would be in order.
This past weekend we had our first substantial snowfall and the birds were everywhere. I had so many flitting around it was almost overwhelming. However, looking out at the snow and all the red patches dotting the ground and bare branches was quite exciting. I love the cardinals year round but in winter they brighten up the cold gray days. Here Mrs. Cardinal sits all puffed up waiting for her turn on the suet feeder. She is so pretty. Here's a shot of both in the nearby oak branches. Ahhh, yes, love is in the air.Valentine's Day is a day to tell those we love, well, that we love them. It makes no difference if it's our husbands or wives, our children, our grandchildren, our parents or our friends. We all have someone we love that loves us back.
Today is also my birthday and since I have to share my special day with all the world this is my Valentine for you my blogging friends because I love all of you for being you and taking time to stop by my little blog and make me smile! Have a LOVELY day!

Ah many thanks Carletta - my favourite US bird. I loved watching them at a feeder at my dear friend's place in Atlanta. The feeder was right outside the breakfast table window. I think sometimes they got sick of this Aussie staring at them - ha ha.
I even purchased a little ornament statue of one at Stone Mountain Park,Ga. - my pride and joy. Somehow it was lost when I was moving and I didn't realise this for many years afterwards when I went to show friends of it.
If Betsy of TN reads this, she knows all about my "fury" etc.
The cost of one red rose here for this day is $10!!!!! Ridiculous isn't it?
Have a great day - I think in the USA as I send this it is still the 13th.
Cheers
Colin (HB)

Hi - what great birds - they are real icons of American bird life.

I could not really believe what I was seeing when I saw one in the flesh (feather?).

Splendid pictures of a splendid bird!

he's got to be the biggest Cardinal I've seen... he's really a big one! She IS a beauty, esp up close so I can see the detail on her! I love Cardinals & you're right, it's even more special to see them in the winter to add color to cold gray days! Great shots, Carletta! =)
