Ouch!

(click to enlarge for best view)

On a recent drive hubby and I found some thistle along the road. I very carefully cut a couple to bring home and photograph outside on my deck. It's been almost six days so the thistle is no longer in pristine shape but I had my camera out and was happy with all the bubbles of bokeh I achieved with this shot.
While I was trying to position the jar to get the most of the light I noticed the mop head shadow in the dappled light.

I like that shadow, too...and isn't thistle just so pretty!

Bokeh, shadow, bokeh, shadow, let's face it they are both nice.

You captured a wonderful shadow in your second photo, but I like the first with the bokeh as well. When I was cutting thistles as a youngster I never thought I would say anything nice about them.

Such lovely, fragile captures although I know there's really nothing fragile about thistle or bokeh -- guess even plants can be a bit deceptive! Hope you have a great holiday weekend, Carletta! Enjoy!

All flowers have an innate beauty, so the thistle qualifies there (although detractors will decry that this is a weed). The lavender hue of the flower is lovely, and the 'mop-head' shadow is brilliant, too. Cheers for thistle and its beautiful shadow ands shape!

Nice photos.
Shadow in the second photo is great bonus to your composition.

The thistle and its shadow are lovely, even though you had to endure some painful pricks along the way!

I LOVE MY SHADOW

I love my shadow,
My shadow loves me;
We chat together
And don’t disagree!

My shadow and I
Prefer not to shout
As we go walking
And rambling about.

My shadow’s so wise,
I ask what she thinks;
She’s happy to share,
And then nods and winks.

My shadow and I
Are best buds, you see;
That’s why we try hard
To always agree!

Excellent ShadowShot! Now throw that nasty noxious weed out so it doesn't propigate!! Happy SSS and Labor Day to you!

Weeds can be pretty too!

You found a nice delicate shadow from the mop head.

Sorry about the ouch. But anything for a photo, right?

Really like both of these-the composition in the first one and the clever shadow shot in the second. Love how the thistle is almost talking to its shadow.

It seems as if the thistle is looking at it´s own shadow.

you made that weed look beautiful!!
thank you for linking up with Flowers on Saturday :)

You certainly got lovely defining light on the back of the flower in the second shot and of course the shadow to balance. Just a slight change of angle an , voila, magic appears.

I like the way the shadow balances the bloom! It does look like a mop head!

Both shots are wonderful - the first for the bokeh and the second for the charming shadow.

love the 2nd shot. You can make it as a background design for your note pad. Perfect.

Thanks for the visit Carletta.

Two very charming shots of the thistle.I like that colour you chose for the trimming...coordinates with the mauve of the thistle flower.

They're such pretty things -- nothing else is quite the same color.

I think thistle is the prettiest noxious weed around. I love the shadow and the bokeh.

That last shot with the shadow is a charmer.

Great shadow shot! The thistle may not have been in pristine shape but the color is beautiful. One of my friends gave me some thistle pods. I don't know if I can grow them, or if I want to, in my yard. Maybe I'll plant them at my neighbor's when he's not home... ;-)
