Macro Monday: Bee Pollen

We have had some beautiful sunflowers this summer that are a variety of autumn colors. Since they are at one end of our garden and I can't see them often hubby cut some and I arranged them in an aluminum pitcher on my back deck. The bees love them. They are quick little guys darting in and out of the flower centers and hard to capture but I finally got a fairly decent shot.
The black and yellow colors of the sunflower center provide a lot of camouflage for the little bee. Look how full this little guy's pollen sacs are - amazing!
Posted for Macro Monday.

Itty bitty hard working beauty! What I really love are the radiating colored petals on the outer part of the photo.

Isn’t it interesting how the bees still come to the sunflowers after we think they have far passed they days of beauty. Love this photo. It is a beautiful macro so filled with detail. Nice work. genie

Hi there - bees are great little animals to watch - I managed to get hold of some bees that had come to the end of their days and show them to kids at work - I think they were impressed - but with kids it’s hard to tell!

Great capture...sometimes they have so much pollen I wonder how they fly.

Lovely macro Carletta. I love the color of that sunflower, and you're right, the bees sure do like one - I had a devil of a time trying to get a shot of one without a bee in it!

We think of sunflowers as an always monochromatic green and yellow all over. Happily for we viewers, there are rubies as well. The bees do work quite hard, and fast, and they are happy to pose for you as they busily gather their pollen. A stunning pose!

It's true that you could easily miss a bee in a sunflower if you didn't see it fly in. You captured the light on the bee beautifully!

Great macro shot. Hard to get when the bee is "flitting" all over the place. Sad to see the end of summer, but it is in sight. Mickie :)

Wow -- busy fellow! All that pollen from just that one flower do you think? It's great that you have a bee-friendly garden. So important these days.
