Hiding Among The Pine Needles

A few weeks ago Hubby and I were trimming a bush beside our front door when I noticed a Praying Mantis. I made a note of where he was so I could get my camera when we were finished. A little later I couldn't find him and was disappointed more than I could say.
This week we were putting down new mulch and there he was in a small pine beside the fron porch. This time we stopped and Hubby went for my camera. He's been hanging around for a few days now so I think he's taken up residence which is more than fine with me.
You should be able to click and enlarge the above image for a more detailed view.
Posing for his closeup!

My, what big eyes you have, ah.. ms. mantis. They are so much fun to watch, I got bit by one once and only once.. that hurts to much to let it happen twice. wonderfully captured!

FANTASTIC! Generally I think praying mantises look creepy but this guy or gal doesn't!

That was nice of him to come back for his photos! And boy did he ever pose for you. I was thinking about big eyes even before I saw the second photo -- just remarkable I like bugs and the mantis is a great one.

I have the exact praying mantis in my garden. I like your close-up. It looks like a painting.

I'm glad he decided to take up residence in your yard, they do tend to remain in an area. She is a beauty and not at all camera shy. The Praying Mantis is one of my favorite insects.

Great pictures. It always surprises me how many people are deathly afraid of a praying mantis. I have no idea what they think the PM is going to do to them. :)

Jeepers creepers, look at those eyes! These are terrific shots, Carletta. I don't think I saw a mantis all summer. Maybe they got tired of having their picture taken so often last summer... lol :)
