Wild Bird Wednesday

I'm accustomed to seeing turkeys wander through my backyard. The yard backs up to acres and acres of woodland. Since moving here three years ago I've seen them off and on year round. It's been a few months since any visited; but last Thursday afternoon in the pouring rain I looked out and this hen was eating the birdseed spilled from the bird feeder.
She paraded around outside my sunroom window for over a half hour eating as much as she could find.
Soon she wandered off and I missed in which direction she had gone. I've seen her two more times this week. Last year I was lucky enough to have a strutting gobbler in my backyard and for the past two years I've been able to watch baby turkeys grow up. I'm hoping this is a good sign of things to come. As always these were taken through my sunroom window so be sure to enlarge them for best viewing.

I love your turkeys~ We always loved to have ground birds to clean up the seed that the feeder birds scattered on the ground, but were never lucky enough to have "our very own" wild turkeys. Your sunroom is the best wildlife viewpoint!! Thanks for sharing.

how fun :) My brother used to keep wild turkeys so we had them wandering around our farm--but their wings were clipped so they couldn't leave. We also had some peacocks.

How wonderful. I remember the baby's last year. I hope we get to see them again. How cool :) Did I ever tell you that my grandparents had pheasants that would frequent their property. My grandmother named them Phil and his girlfriend. They were wonderful to see. One year sadly they just never showed up again. But we enjoyed them for all the years they did. :)

Turkeys that close! Cool!
I probably wouldn't be able to eat turkey if I had them coming to my yard.

I grew up way out in the country and we always had chickens, ducks, and turkeys. The wild turkeys would hang out and munch on the scratch, too! One of my dearest pets as a child was a tom named Butterball that we raised from a chick...don't worry! He was "pardoned" from the get-go!

Carletta, How cool to have turkeys in your yard. I think my dog would scare them away. Great shots.

isn't that cool, turkeys in your backyard?
She must have been pretty hungry to spend a half hour hoovering on the ground.
Lovely shots, and your sunroom window sparkles!

I hope you do get to watch baby turkeys again this year. We've never seen any turkeys near our house, but there are quite a few in the state park near us. We also saw a couple last week when we were in Arkansas.

Great pictures, Carletta... WE have wild turkeys around here --but they don't come out into the open very often... When we walk back into the woods, we might see them then...

Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Betsy

She is a pretty girl. It would be nice to see the babies and watch them grow. We see wild turkeys sometimes in our neighborhood but I've never seen any little ones here.

Oh, Carletta, I would love to have them coming to my back yard! Just to watch--even if I didn't have a camera I would count myself blessed.

Nice captures of the turkey, they are fun to see. I live in an urban area and was quite surprised to find a female turkey feeding on the seed that my neighbor puts out on his sidewalk earlier this week!
