A Little Bit of Gobbler Red

This was the scene from my sunroom window looking out into my backyard last Wednesday. We have had a herd of turkeys visiting regularly for about three weeks and for some reason usually on Wednesday. The hens come in and eat the fallen seed from the bird feeder. They are literally right outside my window. This is the closest old Tom has come. He doesn't come under the feeder. He just struts around hoping to be attractive I guess.
There is a total of eight turkeys in our little herd. This old guy and his six ladies and a younger jake (male). We were lucky last summer to have baby turkeys visit our yard. I hope this is a sign that the same will happen this year.
In this shot you can see one of the hens behind Tom. So far I don't think he has won the heart of any of the ladies. :)

I had no idea that turkeys just wandered like this! And these photos certainly show the amazing detail of their patterned feathers! Lovely shots!

Old Tom is slipping in his old age LOL He better watch out for Jack LOL. Wonderful photos my friend. You are so lucky to have these come to your yard. :)

I don't know if I told you but my grandparents years ago had a male pheasant and a female come to their yard for years. My GM named them Phil and his girlfriend. It was a wonderful site. Unfortunately one year they just never returned. It was sad for all of us especially my GM :)

OK, now I am very jealous. I have been trying to find a turkey displaying like this for several weeks! Great shot, Carletta!

Neat that they come so close. I would love to see the babies. I can sit on my porch and hear them, but trees are between them and me.

Do you think a few will stay until Thanksgiving? If you don't know what a chicken catcher is I can tell you. And if they don't make them anymore you could make one.
Happy RT! Oh yes, those are good looking turkey pictures. :)

He is rather good-looking. The women don't know what they are missing. haha

That's cool that they just wander into the yard, and on Wednesdays too.

There must be a reason..

Ain't they bit noisy at times? I have fear of Turkeys coz they tend to follow you around and bite :D But lovely creatures...

Beautiful pictures, Carletta. That big male turkey has alot of women in his group.... I have heard that male turkeys will take any or all females who will 'do the deed' with him... SO---I'm sure you'll have some babies around soon!!!!! ha ha

Great pictures..... That Tom looks quite proud of his beauty, doesn't he???
Hugs,
Betsy

What a trip. I just don't think about things like front yard turkeys. This is really wonderful. You are so lucky. Hmmmm, that being said, considering the mess the Canada geese leave around here, I hope it's not too bad a mess when they visit.
