Sky Watch Friday

This crane is located just off the interstate on the way to my Mom's house. There have been cranes on this property for more than 30 years.
(Some folks were wondering about the cranes being in the same place so long. I believe they are there for the purpose of training crane operators. I just haven't been able to confirm it. They are in the middle of nowhere!)

For more Sky Watch participants please click on the icon at the top of this post. Sky Watch Friday has it's own blog. Please join our hosts Tom, Sandy, and Imac for beautiful views of the sky from around the world!

Carletta: What a woderful Sky, I love the big crane in the shot.

That is quite strange: why would there be cranes on the one property for more than 30 years? What could they possibly be doing? I do like the cloud formation and the long distance/short distance shots.

You live in beautiful countryside! Lovely photos for your Sky Watch. Is there some sort of mining operation going on over there? Can't imagine why cranes would be there for so long.

Cranes are a great sw motive, but have they really been there over 30years??

In regards to the comments about why they are on the same property for so long - I believe they are used to train crane operators but I haven't been able to verify that for sure. They are in the middle of nowhere so I'm pretty sure that's what they are used for.

Wow... great shot but how come they are there for such a long time!!??

This is a 'country' crane. They usually have a set territory. 'City' cranes are known for their wandering ways.

Great post.
Thanks for the visit

Beautiful skies! That crane that's always there makes me wonder -- maybe they're just providing a home for wayward cranes?

What have the cranes been doing for 30 years??

To every crane there is a purpose, turn, turn turn... :)

Beautiful skies! And it would be interesting to know if the cranes were for training or what.

I never thought about a crane farm for training purposes, but it gives you a chance for these great unusual photos.

Interesting post and I couldn't help but laugh at the music. Maybe it Is a training place like you said.

Beautiful and reminded me of the show recently about the guys doing this for a living...one scary dangerous job!

I've missed everyone! Yes, at the jail, but I'll get back to visiting soon :)

Maybe someone parked it there 30 years ago after a "rough night" and forgot where they left it. :)

Crane School. I knew there had to be one somewhere. You wouldn't want to train on the job in those monsters. Great shot. Pappy

Very pretty sky! That is very interesting about the crane.

It makes sense to have them for training purposes but I can also see where it would raise some questions.

I have been dealing with rheumatoid arthritis in my hands. The chemotherapy drug doesn't stop the pain so my typing is limited.

Beautiful clouds Carletta..
I've been playing catch up here as well today.. loved the cover bridge pictures, and the tractor pull.

Kerri Farley said...

How interesting! I guess they do have to be trained somewhere...and the best place is probably out away from congestion. Love those clouds! Great SWF post!

Dirkjogt said...

Indeed, a crane standing for years on the same place doesn't look very usefull. Nice photos and have enjoyed in the meanwhile your posts during the week. Have a nice weekend!

Bungee jumping, anyone?

Yeah, crane school sounds like a likely explanation. They have to train somewhere, right?

Fantatic capture!

Technologie and nature, a great union!!

Have a happy weekend!

Melli said...

Well! 30 years does seem a bit excessive for a construction job! I would think by NOW you would be able to see the top of the building! Surely your assumption MUST be right! But even THAT amazes me as if it's in the middle of NOWHERE, why hasn't SOMEwhere COME to it by now?
