As we left our driveway Thursday and headed up the hill four turkeys crossed our path...
...and headed on over the hill.
Later in the afternoon when I had returned home they appeared in my backyard. This one was doing a little strutting around for me. I laugh at this one because it's apparently nibbling at its neck and looks headless.
Here comes another one. I didn't know till later a little finch was sitting on the feeder under the oak tree at the same time.
They wandered in the yard for a little while and then left by way of the nearby woods.
Then on Friday in the pouring rain they came looking for the fallen bird seed from the feeder.
You can tell it's pouring rain and look at that little puddle she has dug searching for that bird seed!

Way cool! I've never gotten to see wild turkeys. I'm kind of jealous of that finch too. I've been asking the universe to give me some new birds to feed my camera. Great photos as always.
Wow what a place! Such magnificient birds in close proximity. You were quite alert too to capture them in your lens. :)
This is so ap ropo - of course they have wild turkeys in West Virginia. While visiting my brother on the Cape, looked out back with sleepy eyes at 5:30 and thought I was seeing things. There they were, out for their morning stroll a flock of wild turkeys too :)
That is just too cool! I would love to live in that area.

It must have taken your music awhile to load on my computer as I had looked at the turkeys and had just started to read the post about the rain. I play Bluegrass Music, and I was just thinking about Del McCoury singing "Rain Please Go Away", when "Turkey In The Straw" started playing, and I about jumped off of my chair!
Ooh! I've got an idea! Feed them as much seed as you can between now and Thanksgiving, get them all nice and fat, then...well, you can guess where I'm going with this. ;)
Just don't name them, unless it's names like "Fatty" or "Delicious."

These pictures are very nice! My daughter has three tame turkeys and gets visits from some bushturkeys, which have coloured feathers and are an easy prey to dingoes and snakes.She lives in North Queensland, Australia.

My husband is a turkey hunter--I have got to remember to show him this. I seen it last night and had forgotten...great set of photos.
HA! If it was Thanksgiving you would NEVER see them! Just like the Deer are NEVER around during deer season! So that settles it -- MUST be Independence Day! Looks like they are feeling it too!

When I was a kid we never saw wild turkeys and now they're everywhere. I think there's a turkey at the christian camp where I volunteer that is retarded. :) Sometimes it follows the maintenance manager around like he is it's mom. We tell him to be careful because his wife will be jealous because he has another girlfriend. :)
Carletta: I love the Turkey photos and the Goldfinch makes that one really special.
