The restaurant was named for a county hero and an American Statesman - Francis Lightfoot Lee. He was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
I love the ornate ironwork in the archway above the door and the detail on the columns. The former bank's initials are in the crest.
As we leave Leesburg on this leg of our trip maybe you've liked what you've seen and would be interested in buying some property and staying around awhile.
I had to include a shot of this old shoe sign up the street from the restaurant. I thought it was amusing that at the top of the sign was a picture of a duck. I didn't see the bird on the pole when I took the picture. If you enlarge this one you can see all the architectural elements on the eaves of the building up the street. They sure don't make things that intricate anymore.

I love looking at all the work that used to go into buildings. I am always amazed at what was accomplished.
You are capturing the city well. I love how well the buildings are preserved. And I'm impressed with how clean everything is. Great pictures.
Thank you so much for the great tour. I too like all the ornate done those many years ago. beautiful area. MB
Beautiful town. A bit out of my price range, I'm afraid. Fun traveling with you! Looking forward to tomorrow's installment.
Your photography choices are always amazing. I must applaud your work. It is Nice.
I think you made a period instead of a comma where the price is a whopping $1,490.000 . I hope it isn't a sign of old age like me? LOL I hope it is OK to point things out like this. Some folks don't like it much and say so. So I am hesitant, nervous as a goose with loose bowels and holding my breath.

Fantastic as usual. I have always found the curveture of capitals and the cornices on old buildings in stark contrast to the boxiness of the building it's self. Like icing on a sheet cake.
This is an awesome tour of Leesburg! Both days. I love it and appreciate the hard work you put into it. Love the history lesson too!
Keep rolling Carletta, I am enjoying the trip.
Great trip pictures! I might be interested in purchasing the coffee shop. lol
You've been a great tour guide!
That property is Very Expensive...wow!
Looking forward to Winchester tomorrow.
LOL! I thought that restaurant was named for GORDON!!! Oh... maybe he wasn't around then... This has been such a fun little journey you have taken us on! I can't wait to get to Winchester though! Hubby and I used to have a piece of property down there... years ago! You can read about it HERE if you'd like! Now... my mouth is watering for a tasty Winesap!
I much prefer Lightfoot to a bank. So much more interesting...food. I'm still wondering what's up with the duck? Why? Oh well...
As always, outstanding job Carletta and this is fun!
(I love the way old shutters pulled in from outside to close)
A perfect tour, Carletta! I'm so glad when they restore these wonderful buildings! Thank you! :)
Carletta: 1.5 million for office space, you would need to trade in gold to be able to afford the payments or get kickbacks from the government. That is out of this world. I like the restaurant photos.
Holy cow! If the plain buildings are going for two million dollars, I wonder how much the beautiful restaurant (former bank) would go for these days.
some lovely architecture there. i've enjoyed your tour very much. and now i know what to do with the lotto premium i'll win this sunday... oops, perhaps i better go buy that ticket :)
Thanks Abe,
I don't mind at all. I fixed it now. The eyes do get tired after midnight!
Old buildings certainly had more grace style and character than the abstract monstrosities nowadays. Am enjoying this tour of places I've never been.
More more... .. I'm really enjoying this trip.. and I did like the ornate roof lines
I love old buildings. Thanks for the tour. It is amazing what old banks become. The one in my last town became a dentists office.
Wow, I just checked in to see what you had been up to - a lot from the looks of it.
I really enjoyed your Leesburg pics. They reminded me of my trip to Boston - if you ever get the chance, go. It's a truly beautiful city. Here are my pics/links to galleries:
