Skywatch Friday AND Alphabet Photos
I is for Intrusive

Skies Over the Appalachians

I is for Intrusive

....as in the aesthetic ridgeline of the mountains was mared by the intrusive cell tower.

Always on the lookout for a potential Skywatch post, I stopped to take this photo of the mountains against the sky as I returned Tuesday from the visit to my daughter's. The cell tower was definitely out of character among the mountain ridges of the idyllic landscape. As you can see I managed to point my camera at an angle as to keep the tower out of the first photo. I wanted to share the second photo showing the contrast of what has always been with what our scenic views are becoming. The continued proliferation of cell towers seems destined to mar our most scenic areas. Our modern day wireless communication makes it necessary; but at what cost?
Happy Skywatching

I was just there waiting to see Carletta's link for our usual SKY WATCH surprise!
And you did it well ... I loved this fantastic view.

Your photos make me long for a trip to Tennessee to see some of those same scenes.

Cell towers are a bummer. The ones that look like fake trees because they are fake trees are just as bad (though they do look silly along the highway). Nevertheless, your view on the other side of that thing is just spectacular.

Love your mountain pics, but you're so right about the intrusiveness of cell towers and such. I see no answer though.

The landscape is majestic in spite of the towers!

Beautiful scenery Carletta! It's a shame about those towers - some day we won't be able to have a good view of anything without some technological thing in the way. Great captures.

Isn't that frustrating!
Pretty place, though.
And nice shot.

At what coast, is a good question. Not just our view is getting messed up. There is no such thing as privacy. Our phone can -- and does -- follow us everywhere. As does the internet, television (I rarely turn mine on), ads, etc.

We recently went three days without electricity, and except for the stress over frozen foods, it was nice. We read. We played cribbage. We talked and laughed. We were almost sad when the electricity came back on.

Thanks for visiting my blog. :)
Great views - and isn't it a pity that so often there is a tower, or a pylon or strung wires right in the middle of what you want to shoot.

That's a tiny cell tower. They're usually so much bigger up here in Connecticut. The pictures still represent how beautiful those mountains are.

I love your music too!

Hi Carletta, I've been missing you. Ah, cell phone towers. I'm afraid they're here to stay. It appears that most people I see today are addicted. Come by for a visit anytime. P.S. Aren't grandbabies great?

Gosh, that is gorgeous with the hill in the forefront with a touch of green.... so pretty.
Thanks for dropping by, I appreciate it.

Carletta, I'm torn about cell towers... yes they spoil the skyline but what about being able to get in touch with our loved ones by cell phone? I don't know, I understand your point though. :)

The clear picture of the skies is lovely .
It really is very difficult to weigh the pros and cons of modern communication advances . though they do mar and take away from the natural surrounding beauty on one hand they make it possible for us to travel the world over without moving an inch !!
A difficult choice !

Such a pretty view! And we have the same problem here with the towers often marring the view. I guess I'm still living in the dark ages because I've never had a cell phone. :-)

Shelly said...

Such a pretty view, makes me want to go for a country drive.

Melli said...

Those darned cell towers! They are just poppin' up EVERYwhere! I guess without them though, there would be NO service up in them thar hills! (can't have that now...) I'll just look the other way -- it's still a beautiful view!

Oh... and by the way... y'all are amazing me with the Incredible ways you are finding to work "I" into your photos today! YOU included!!!

Angie said...

It looks a really beautiful place even with the mobile mast there.

Karen Coutu said...

Nice choice for "I" and I agree that it is intrusive to see such things right in the middle of what otherwise would be a beautiful nature scene.

Paulie said...

Beautiful! Just remember, even cell phone towers can't spoil the MEMORIES of places we've seen before they arrived!

Beautiful and one heck of a following.. great job Carletta!

They are an eyesore, certainly. I think that soon we will have no need for them as technology progresses and they will then be removed.

Lovely skay watch photos!

I was wondering if you were going to magically find an iguana lurking in your backyard or an igloo up in the hills. What a way to do both today!! Intrusive.... Perfect.

LOL anyone every tell you how creative you are? DUH.....

Thanks for visiting my Skywatch post last week. We have been enjoying the sunshine so I have been away from home. Sadly the sun is disappearing from the North East Coast so I will probably be posting a mist on Friday!

Thanks
