Take Me Home Down Country Roads

Recently a friend wrote me and asked what I did on a daily basis now that I wasn't working anymore. One of my replies to him was that I like to go for drives and that I could drive all day down those roads where I'd never been. Such a drive was what I described in yesterday's post. Why do I like to do this? Well in the words of Forest Gump (which happened to be what I found on TV after my drive Sunday) - you never know what you'll get - or see.
This was what was being held behind the fence in yesterday's post :) No cows, no sheep, no horses in sight - just some deer!

Rounding a turn in the road this rooftop appeared with smoke curling gently out of the brick chimney. For some reason it reminded of a scene from The Lord of the Rings and I pictured little Hobbits going to and fro. I'm sure humans were inside in front of that fire; but the fantasy made me smile!
This old weathered barn stands on a working farm. It is in a state of disrepair and could definitely use some TLC. This time the fence keeps the cows where they belong.
Blue skies filled with cotton candy clouds blanketed the idyllic scene.
As sunset approached the blues of the evening sky welcomed me home.

I almost didn't want to click over because I was enjoying John Denver singing too much. Reminds me of my childhood :)

What a beautiful drive! I love your description of the hobbit chiminey. I always think of that too ;)

Great post; I think we must be kindred spirits...drives to nowhere are my favorite thing. Just get out and go, not really know where you are...but know you will eventually come to some place you know.

Many years ago a friend who worked at the same newspaper I did and I decided to explore every road in our county. By Virginia standards, it was one of the largest counties so we never did travel them all, but I've been on just about every one of them in the upper half. Haven't been on as many where I currently live, but I've probably still seen a lot more than most people. I think you need to know where the roads go and what's on them in the area in which one lives. After all, you never know what's around the next bend.

Hi Carletta! I think your idea of driving along old and even new roads is a good one. It's kind of like an adventure; you'll never know what you'll find. I like the skies in your pictures. My 25 year old son likes to drive around a lot too.
