This tree sits in a field not far from my home. I pass it frequently when I’m going out for the day. When I first saw it last summer it reminded me of the “hanging trees” in the old westerns I watched growing up as a child. Last Sunday as I returned home from the drive I’ve been sharing about all week; I decided to stop and finally photograph it. It was late afternoon and the shadows against the sky seemed to make it more eerie looking than normal. It stands in a field that is pretty much void of any other vegetation so I have to wonder why the farmer left it standing; but, I suppose I would miss it if it were gone. For now, it continues to stand - its branches pointing up out of despair reaching toward the beautiful blue sky.

I love seeing lone tress like that one. Your right about it looking like something from the old west. Great photo!
Really does look like a character out of a wild West movie. I looked around at some of your other entries - your blog is interesting! It's an area of the world I don't know much about.
Hi Carletta
What a great tree this is.. it must mean something if the farmers as left it be all this time.
The sky is stunning to set the tree against.
All the best
Tom
I love the starkness of it against the sky--grreat!
With the music it send me right in to a Clint Easwood movie.Very good photo:o)
It's great that you take the time to stop and photograph things you see along the way. I've enjoyed the photos in your last few blog entries. Too many people, me included, often drive past great photo opportunities because it's too much trouble to stop. There are great photo ops everywhere in West Va.
If you haven't already seen them, you might like Jim Clark's books on West Va. He's a good nature photographer. I have West Virginia: The Allegheny Highlands but not his other book, Mountain Memories.
Even if the tree seems so lonely, I guess she can always get the news from the passing clouds :)
This is a very nice photo.
Liked the photo on the header also.
That tree wants to tell stories! Great photo.
Good match with subject, your pic and the music from this old and good movie.
Great composition, beautiful image.
Its not so lonely ..its got all of us looking at it now! Nice photo!
Carletta: I remember those westerns. You really got a complete show at the theater. Many an outlaw has found his demise there.
Very nice photo
I love bare trees. They are so interesting, and this one is just wonderful against that sky.
Nice photo!! I have to say the same as Anne-Berit. Looks like a Clint Eastwood- movie when you listen to the music at the same time:)
Interesting photo! And I like your blog also. I'll be back. :-)
Nice shot!
A song of sky!

Neat shot! I love the photo in your header too!
I have melancholy thoughts about that! The tree looks so lonely and yet its silhouette against that blue sky is so beautiful.
Hi Carletta! Thank you so much for stopping by :) I'm glad I started out ok on my first post, because I sat here for twenty minutes, then got up, then sat there, and then finally just said "what the hay" and wrote something. LOL Anyway thank you for making my day!
