Ruby Red Watermelon

It sat for weeks in the garden. Getting bigger and bigger.

Finally a thump, thump, thump on the hard shell said it was time for pickin'.

Cutting it in half revealed the sweet pink-red flesh inside.
Prepare for sticky hands, drippy elbows and spitting of seeds.
Yum, Yum, Yum!
Before I bit in I could swear it winked and smiled at me!

Ruby Red Strawberry At The Cemetery

Memorial day weekend Hubs and I were visiting the family cemetery where his parents, grandparents and some siblings are buried. Here in the rural areas of West Virginia, folks would say we were in the middle of nowhere and by all accounts we were. Not a single house for miles and miles and no cell tower for reception. As I was making my way down the hill after placing flowers on the gravesites I looked down at my feet and discovered this one wild strawberry. I looked for more but there was only this one. I didn't pick it.

God planted something for me to smile about.

A Little Bit of Gobbler Red

This was the scene from my sunroom window looking out into my backyard last Wednesday. We have had a herd of turkeys visiting regularly for about three weeks and for some reason usually on Wednesday. The hens come in and eat the fallen seed from the bird feeder. They are literally right outside my window. This is the closest old Tom has come. He doesn't come under the feeder. He just struts around hoping to be attractive I guess.
There is a total of eight turkeys in our little herd. This old guy and his six ladies and a younger jake (male). We were lucky last summer to have baby turkeys visit our yard. I hope this is a sign that the same will happen this year.

In this shot you can see one of the hens behind Tom. So far I don't think he has won the heart of any of the ladies. :)

Shadow Shot

This is my hummingbird feeder ready and waiting for me to add a little food for our summer visitors. Everything has bloomed a little earlier this year and I thought maybe the hummingbirds would show up early too and I wanted to be ready. My Mom thinks she saw one earlier in the week. It did turn cold the past couple of nights so I'll hold off a few days before adding any food but I'm expecting to see my first hummingbird within the next couple of weeks.
With the bright sunshine I thought it made a wonderful shadow shot and I even get to emulate Sylvia's wonderfully colored shadows that I've envied for so long. Hope the sunshine is bright where you are. If so, get out and take a walk with your shadow!

Ruby Tuesday: Old McDonald's Billboard

The fading patina of the paint and the old looking school bus drew my attention to this billboard. If you enlarge the image you can see that is stenciled on plank boards which leads me to believe it has been there quite awhile. They just don't make them this way anymore.

Ruby Tuesday

I've been practicing my photography skills this week and had been trying to accomplish some soft focus shots of some roses. I was trying to do that in camera and not post processing. The practicing will continue.

Above are two shots that seemed more out of focus than soft focus and I didn't fully like the result. I used my software to add texture to them and I am quite pleased with how they came out. I'll use these to make homemade greeting cards.

Ruby Tuesday: House With Red Shutters

Isn't she beautiful! This house sits on a fairly busy street across from the local city park. I remember the house from my childhood days. We would often visit my Aunt who used to live around the corner and down the block from this old treasure. It hasn't always had decorative red accents and has been remodeled somewhat since those days. The fountain to the left was added a few years ago.

Most times I 'go into town' as I did today I pass by and think how elegent it looks sitting in the middle of the city. I look at the wrap-around porch and imagine pitchers of lemonade sitting on the tables and friends sitting in the wicker chairs enjoying each other's company just passing time. Sitting in one of the rockers with a good book or just with eyes closed listening to the water fall in the fountain would also be a pleasurable existence for an hour or so. And what about those turrets - I wonder what's behind the windows in those spaces. It's fun to daydream anyway!

A Blurred Bundle of Innocence

My little granddaugher Lily was at her babysitter's dancing round and round in her little dress with big red flowers. She danced and twirled right up to the babysitters camera phone. She is a blurred whirlwind but I just love the bubbles in her mouth and the pure joy on her face. Hope she makes you smile too.

My Creative Side/Ruby Tuesday

It's time for Ruby Tuesday and time to post a photo with a little red or a lot of red.

A few days ago it was a beautiful spring day and I took the Jeep out for a ride. I had a barbecue lunch across from this old building. At one time it was used as a warehouse; but has been restored and turned into an apartment building with these red doors that lead to nowhere. Originally I thought I would use this partial shot of the building for a Sepia Scenes post but I wasn't happy with it. I had taken the shot in the bright sun and it seemed washed out. So, I played around with my software and this is the result - a much brighter Ruby Tuesday post!

Ruby Tuesday In The Fall #2

I had gone to visit my Mom again on Monday and took some more photos of the leaves left on her trees. Two maples in her front yard which are thirty five or forty years old have lost almost all their leaves.

This is day three of Robert's "Show Me" photo project and since it's Tuesday it is time for Mary's Ruby Tuesday. Being the multi-tasker I try to be I'm combining my post today to try and satisfy both memes. Today Robert asked us to show our front door. Well, I participated in a door meme last week and posted my front door. (Here) I hope you'll check it out so you can see the whole door plus a faded ruby red gate.

Something different and creative had to happen for Robert's project so I'm showing a new fall rug with some fall chrysanthmums in a burgandy red. Of course Heidi wanted to see what was going on. You should know she won't be meeting you at the door. She is our resident hermit or 'hider' when any company comes. You'll have to peek at her in the corner of the bedroom closet when you visit.

You'll have to forgive me; but I couldn't resist the title! I'm not sure what the guy driving the truck was doing at the time. This is a small road going into a truck stop. He couldn't have been speeding but somehow he lost the trailer and flipped it in the ditch. It happened as we were having dinner nearby and took a little over an hour to get it turned upright again.
