I was sitting in the parking lot of a hardware store waiting for hubby this week and there against the fluffy clouded blue sky stood this amazing electric pole and all its attachments. The words 'it's electric' just popped into my head and just as you are now, I KNOW you are, I was singing out loud. I have seen Anni's meme over at Thom's place and thought I should join in and this seemed the perfect time to do just that.
I first heard this song when my daughter was in elementary school. Her PE teacher taught the kids the slide and it was the highpoint of their week to go to PE class. Then, just a couple of weeks ago we attended my nephew's wedding and sure enough it was played a few times. You can't help yourself you just have to move when you hear this song!
The lyrics themselves conjur up a memory from long ago when I was a young girl of between six and eight years old and always comes to mind if I think about electricity for more than a few minutes.

The story begins that my brother and I played with a set of twin girls across the street from us when we were growing up. Their grandfather was building a new brick house right beside his old wooden one. One day my brother and I went over to play. I usually played with Candy and my brother usually played with Sandy. On this day after we had been there awhile my brother and Sandy came and told Candy and I that they wanted to show us something. Along we went. We came up between the two house structures to a metal pole in the ground. They told us the pole tickled and wanted us to touch it with our finger. You see where this story is going don't you? After a few minutes of not wanting to be called a fraidy-cat I reached out and took hold of the pole with my whole hand. Luckily I had my other hand wrapped around the wooden porch pole of the old house. My body was shaking all over and I couldn't let go. The others started screaming and running for our parents. It took my Dad, my Grandpa, and the girls Grandfather to pull me from the pole. I cried and cried.
The pole held electric wires for the new house and had not been grounded.
It was an innocent dare that I took; but it could have taken my life. In fact they were pretty sure it would have if I hadn't grounded myself by having my other arm wrapped around the wooden pole. The electricity went through my arms from one pole to the other instead of all through me.
There's a line in the song that says, "She's movin' like electric" - I was!

The Monday after Thanksgiving I was at my daughter's home and had taken little Lily and Lucy out shopping. When we returned home this is what we saw in the sky. The contrails seemed to start at a point on the horizon and fan out. It was the same in two directions. The sunset was reflected in their vapor trails. It was quite a sight to see. As she lives near the Norfolk Naval Base it wouldn't surprise me that these were left by jets doing military maneuvers.
As I finished taking pictures I turned as I walked through the front door for one last look. That was when I saw the moon among the trails. As I looked at these this week on my computer I started humming Frank Sinatra's song - Fly Me To The Moon.
