"Show Me" - You

(Please scroll down for Saturday's wordzzle.)

I was eighteen months old as I stood beside the car and held my Daddy's keys. My Daddy, the man I was named after. I've always liked old cars. Yes, these cars pictured are old. Heck, I'm old. I wasn't always so although some days it sure feels like it.

I've always loved cats. At seven years old I couldn't have the keys to the car but I had a tricycle and a cat named Snowball and apparently didn't favor shoestrings.

I love holidays. Always have. I remember hunting Easter eggs in the church cemetery. At eleven this was probably my last hunt. I loved getting new clothes for the holiday. Too bad this photo is in black and white. My outfit was navy blue with red and white trimmings and gold buttons. Ah, high school. I was a girl with dreams back then. Some I fulfilled some are on my life's bucket list.
I'm a natural born redhead. Good thing we did have some color shots in the old days! I missed out on Woodstock; although I visited the site some years ago. I was a wanna be hippy - I didn't frame that photo with daisies for nothing. Look closely and you'll see a headhand with daisies holding back that long red hair. It's who I was. It's the free spirit I hope I still am.
If you've been following this blog all week you know I've been participating in Robert's (Thoughts of a Father) photo project titled "Show Me." Today it was "Show Me" - You.

If you visit on a regular basis you see my face there in the sidebar when you click in so you've already 'seen' my self portrait. The photos I've shared today are me too. There's a part of that little girl and then young woman in everyone of those photos that's still here inside me. In truth, I've shown you me all week. A mailbox along the side of a country road, kitchen cabinets full of keepsakes with stories behind them, special treasures from a loving father, a love of reading and simple pleasures - all little insights into me and who I am - for better or for worse.

"Show Me" - Something Relaxing

Robert (Thoughts of a Father) has had an ongoing photo project this week he has called "Show Me." So far we have photographed our mailboxs, our kitchens, our front doors, sentimental objects and favorite views in our home. Today's challenge is to show something that we find relaxing.

In my mind there is nothing more relaxing than to curl up with a good book. One of my favorite places is out on the swing underneath the gazebo. Do you remember how much fun it was as a child to go to the playground and swing as high as you could? I have always loved that feeling. When we moved in this house I knew that a swing was what I wanted in the gazebo. This week we had a day where the temps hovered around seventy and in the late afternoon a cool breeze made it seem so much closer to fall. I love those days and I'm yearning for more of them to come quickly. There is nothing as relaxing as sitting in my gazebo swinging backwards and forwards imaging that far off place my book is taking me to. Even without a book I find relaxation looking out at my own little corner of the world that surrounds me and gives me peace.
Here's hoping you find peace and relaxation in your corner of the world today.

"Show Me" - Sentimental Objects

This week Robert is hosting a photo project he has titled "Show Me." He has picked common objects for participants to photograph in a creative way. His choice for today is sentimental objects. My three small objects are shown here under a glass dome. Since they are from the past it seemed fitting to present this first image in black and white.
These three objects were given to me by my Dad. My Dad passed away a little over twelve years ago and I still miss him as if it were yesterday. Dad didn't have a lot growing up and he wasn't much of a materialistic person so that makes these little treasures he passed on to me even more sentimental.
The ring in the center above belonged to my Grandfather. I never knew him because he passed away before I was even born. A few years ago I traced my family genealogy back some eleven generations to the early 1700's. My Grandfather went by a nickname and I had only heard his given name which turned out to be his middle name. Through this research I learned that without knowing I had named my son the same first name as my Grandfather. How cool is that! The ring and a ceramic jug are the only things I have from my Grandparents.

I do not know where the watch above came from with any certainty. My Dad gave it to me when my son was born. My Dad was a quiet man and didn't talk very much. It was also hard for him to express his feelings. It was the day after my son was born and I was in the hospital. At my bedside my Dad handed me the watch. He looked at me and said 'I didn't have very much to give you but I wanted to give you something.' He handed me the watch. I had begun collecting things for a country home and he knew my love of old things. It was old and I knew he treasured it. I didn't want to take it. He told me he wanted me to have it. I think he knew I would take care of it. It is now set to the time my son was born.

The coin you see is what they call a Barber Quarter. It was minted in 1914. My Dad gave it to me on the birth of my daughter. He thought it didn't compare to the watch but again he wanted to give me something that belonged to him not something new. I don't know what the coin is worth. I know some Barber Quarters have sold in the thousands. I've never had mine appraised. It doesn't matter. To me, it is priceless.

I'm going to go over to Robert's Thoughts of a Father and sign Mr.Linky so he knows I've posted my photos. And Robert, you better have a box of tissues waiting. I need one and this is only MY post.
Folks be sure to click on the above link to visit other participants or to join us . The project runs through Saturday.

Ruby Tuesday Meets "Show Me"

MEETS
"SHOW ME"
This is day three of Robert's "Show Me" photo project and since it's Tuesday it is time for Mary's Ruby Tuesday. Being the multi-tasker I try to be I'm combining my post today to try and satisfy both memes. Today Robert asked us to show our front door. Well, I participated in a door meme last week and posted my front door. (Here) I hope you'll check it out so you can see the whole door plus a faded ruby red gate.
Something different and creative had to happen for Robert's project so I'm showing a new fall rug with some fall chrysanthmums in a burgandy red. Of course Heidi wanted to see what was going on. You should know she won't be meeting you at the door. She is our resident hermit or 'hider' when any company comes. You'll have to peek at her in the corner of the bedroom closet when you visit.

Click on the Ruby Tuesday logo or Robert's name to find other participants in each meme.
Hope you're having a Ruby Tuesday.

"Show Me..." - Welcome To My Kitchen

Day two of Robert's "Show Me..." photo project was to post a picture centered around something in your kitchen. My favorite part of my kitchen is the glass door cabinets above.
I wasn't sure when I first moved in if I would like them. I'm just a cram things in and shut the door kind of girl and with these you have to be neat. I've come to like them a lot. I have put some of my most precious glass items on the shelves.
If you open the doors on the left you can see a glass dessert bowl set on the top shelf that my Mom's good friend gave me when I got married. Some of you will remember my Mickey Mouse cup from Project Black. The red bowl was given to me by my Grandpa when I was still young enough not to appreciate it so much but it has become one of my favorite possessions.
In the left side of the cabinet is a plate that is a Warren Kimble design that I picked up for under five dollars and didn't know until later it was a Kimble and a great deal. The compote dish is a twin to the one you saw in the left cabinet. They look a lot like carnival glass but I don't think they are. The swirled glass collection on the middle shelf is from Scotland. My Hubs used to travel to a submarine base there and would bring them back to me from his trips. In the bottom shelf is a glass coke bottle my brother found out hunting last fall. It is stamped on the bottom with my hometown's name. When I was very young there was a bottling company in the town where we grew up. It has been gone probably fifty years. It was quite a find that he knew I would appreciate.
A larger look of that end of the kitchen.
Look closely. I made chocolate chip cookies and a pot of fresh coffee for your visit.
Thanks so much for visiting today.

"Show Me"....Your Mailbox

Robert has started his very first photo project this week. He has titled it "Show Me." Each day he has chosen something different for us to photograph. Today we were to shoot a photo of our mailbox in a creative way.
I left home early yesterday to travel to a party for my nephew who is turning sixteen and I didn't return until after dark. When I returned last night I stopped before pulling into my driveway letting my Jeep's headlights light the mailbox in order to have enough light to take a picture.
Sure the lighting needs work; but, after driving 270 miles in a day's time I was tired and this was all the creative juices I had left!
If you would be interested in joining Robert's photo project click on his blog name below for all the details. I know he would love to have you join in the fun.
