Barn Charm

Last week I posted two Mail Pouch barns and promised two more this week. All of the barns were along a nearby route in my county.
Above is the first barn this week. As we rounded a turn in the road this one easily grabbed my attention. The side of the barn with the ad faced the road. As you can see the paint job has been kept up quite well on that side of the barn. A closer look and the rest of the barn doesn't seem to be as well cared for.
Coming around another turn this was the scene. With no place to pull off I had to take this through the windshield. This one was in a lovely setting with the fall foliage behind it. It was midday so lighting is pretty harsh as well.
A little closer look at the barn and the ad. I like how the ground was built up to allow access to the door. When going through the photos I realized I should have taken a picture of the small farmhouse as well. It is in front of the barn.
On the other side of the farmhouse was this trio of buildings. You can see the roof of another barn in back and then the smaller barn in front with a smaller wooden garage like barn to the left.
The fields were cut and clean but I didn't see any livestock of any kind. I don't believe it was a working farm at the present time.

    Ads on barns were very popular at one time. They chose very well positioned locations so the ad would be seen the best.

    Hi Carletta, Great pictures of all of the barns in your area. Do you all have quilt barns in West VA? We saw alot of them while driving through KY and Ohio.... I love all of the designs on those barns.

    YES BETSY, WE HAVE MANY QUILT BARNS HERE IN WEST VIRGINIA. THE WOMAN WHO STARTED THE QUILT BARN TREND DID IT AS A TRIBUTE TO HER MOTHER WHO WAS FROM WEST VIRGINIA AND THE SAME COUNTY I WAS BORN IN.

    The second barn would not look right if the sign were to be repainted, but I am really glad the first barn went to the effort on at least the one important side.

    I really like the second mail pouch barn. And I love the quilt fence in the previous post. I scrolled through you older posts and I have missed so many. I thought I was following you but I guess not and I can't see where to follow you.

    Funny how they just painted the sign side on the first barn. Perhaps they're going for a then and now look. I love the setting for the second barn. I do believe I prefer the weathered sign to the repainted one. Like Barb, I'd like to follow you but couldn't find where to do it.

    Thanks for your comment on my latest blog post. At least here in Michigan Pearly Everlasting is available in garden centers as a perennial plant. Look for it either with the herbs or with the native plants.

    Love the ad barns & you find so many cool ones out there... I used to see them around here, but not anymore... such a shame, cuz that just proves these old barns are a dying breed! Awful!

    Great Pics. Where were these taking at? There is a mailpouch barn in Ellamore Wv, have you seen it? Also have you seen the new Breast cancer barn in Whitmer, WV where they painted over parts of the mailpouch. I have pics if you would like to see them.
