Let's start by looking down the fence line at the side of the driveway. The forsythia that has been left to grow naturally was in full blown a few days ago. The wind and rain of the past few hours has blown away many blossoms. Looking a little further we catch a glimpse of the blooming redbud tree. The scene is framed against a soft blue sky.Peeking over the fence to our right is one of two coy ponds in the yard. The bare branches of the reflected hickory tree seem to be reaching for lost leaves at the bottom of the pond. A little orange coy swims among the branches. At the other end of the pond the reflections include the blue sky,the purple leaves of the flowering plum tree, and the stack of rock that make up the pond fountain. My little orange friend keeps swimming into view hoping I'll put down the camera and throw in some food pellets. The spring leaves of the flowering plum rise beautifully to meet the blue sky.The underside of the dark purple leaves glow vibrantly in the sunlight!

Goldfish in the middle of nowhere?
ReplyDeleteOr is this on your property?
Sturdy old looking fence. No good to keep in sheep or goats.
And NO GATE?????? tut tut!
Your words on this pond/gate are like something Homer, Plato and Aristotle and the greats of yesteryears would have conjured up. A sense of the poetic with an intersperse of the realistic. Beautifully composed. Go to the top of the class, please.
Actually to come back to planet Earth, really beautiful photos!
Hmmmmmmmm!
Fence score.
Rustic - 10
Practical - Zilch.

ps: Weather report from Brisbane.
Looks like a rip roarer is coming up from the South! No rain here for 2 days! A bloody miracle.
What a lovely trip 'round your yard today! I love the fence, even though it isn't designed to keep anything in or out...just lovely. Redbuds, my favorite! And nothing quite says spring like forsythia! My son has a Koi pond and he thought his were gone after the cold snap...turns out they were just hiding, deep! I would love to have one, but don't want the maintenance! Lazy...or too busy...one of the other! Very lovely photos!
ReplyDeletelove your coy ponds! have always wanted one, but knew between herons and egrets and our water-loving dogs, it would never survive! :) love the reflection shots.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour of your yard. I really like your koi pond, but that flowering plum tree is beautiful.

What a beautiful yard!
ReplyDeleteLove your idea of a spring yard tour Carletta. Also approve of your letting the forsythia grow free instead of cutting in "gumball" shapes. Your shots of spring branches and blooms against a blue sky are just so dramatic and how much fun do we photographer have in playing with reflections? :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Carletta and I love the spring colors... Forsythia is always a favorite but of course, yellow is my favorite summer color.
ReplyDeleteLove the reflection picture also...
Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy

Carletta...What a pretty spot, and your pictures are great. Those reflections....when they come out it color I always get so excited. I am assuming this is your property...love the fencing. We do not have any, but wish we did. Maybe one of these day I will get my wish. That forsythia is HUGE....you lucky girl. We only have a small one beside our “bridge to somewhere.” genie
