"Show Me" - You

(Please scroll down for Saturday's wordzzle.)

I was eighteen months old as I stood beside the car and held my Daddy's keys. My Daddy, the man I was named after. I've always liked old cars. Yes, these cars pictured are old. Heck, I'm old. I wasn't always so although some days it sure feels like it.

I've always loved cats. At seven years old I couldn't have the keys to the car but I had a tricycle and a cat named Snowball and apparently didn't favor shoestrings.

I love holidays. Always have. I remember hunting Easter eggs in the church cemetery. At eleven this was probably my last hunt. I loved getting new clothes for the holiday. Too bad this photo is in black and white. My outfit was navy blue with red and white trimmings and gold buttons. Ah, high school. I was a girl with dreams back then. Some I fulfilled some are on my life's bucket list.
I'm a natural born redhead. Good thing we did have some color shots in the old days! I missed out on Woodstock; although I visited the site some years ago. I was a wanna be hippy - I didn't frame that photo with daisies for nothing. Look closely and you'll see a headhand with daisies holding back that long red hair. It's who I was. It's the free spirit I hope I still am.
If you've been following this blog all week you know I've been participating in Robert's (Thoughts of a Father) photo project titled "Show Me." Today it was "Show Me" - You.

If you visit on a regular basis you see my face there in the sidebar when you click in so you've already 'seen' my self portrait. The photos I've shared today are me too. There's a part of that little girl and then young woman in everyone of those photos that's still here inside me. In truth, I've shown you me all week. A mailbox along the side of a country road, kitchen cabinets full of keepsakes with stories behind them, special treasures from a loving father, a love of reading and simple pleasures - all little insights into me and who I am - for better or for worse.

I discovered your blog when we did Jientje's door challenge and came back today for a visit. Love all you photos. I live in the country as well...isn't it great to look out and not see houses all around you? The turkeys are great! I've never had any in the yard, but hear them all the time. I thought about doing Robert's 'show me' challenge, but didn't have the energy to blog every day for another week! Loved your entry on 'sentimental things.' I'll come back and visit again soon....

Carletta,

I have, so, enjoyed this post!

I love seeing the younger Carletta...

Well, actually, I still see that same girl in the YOU of today, in all you write here!

I like that color pic of you as a young wannabe hippie girl. :) What pretty, long, red hair!

Thanks for sharing all this.

Carletta, Loved loved this post. Loved the pictures and the part where you talked about all those girls still being a part of you. Exactly how I feel about me too!!

What a wonderful post! You are so right about the little girl and younger selves live on in us. I see them in your portrait on the side-bar and it was fun to see the pictures of you as a little girl. I remember those cars. My family's first car was an old Plymouth, I think. (I'm not very good at car names, I'm afraid.) In any case, it looked very much like the car in your picture.

P.S. Being a natural redhead is cool. My father was a red head - darker red (at least it looks that way in pictures)in his younger days and then more your color for most of my life. I got red highlights at least.

Carletta: What a great post, your life story from the start to the beginning of a full life. It was a sentimental journey through your youth that has continued on through your daughter and grandchild. I always liked big band sounds and Count Basie played at our All Night Party at graduation in 1961, how's that for big band.

I had not seen your name on the sky watches so I had not visited you. Shame on me! I see you have been a very busy lady, writing and photographing some amazing things which I have enjoyed reading, viewing, and commenting on some of them. Great job!

Indeed you have shown us you all week. I thank you so much for getting so involved. I'm glad you enjoyed doing this. Although I'm late getting to see some of these (my schedule with work has been quite busy) I'm enjoying all you did here.

Those are wonderful photos, Carletta! It's been fun getting to know your beyond just Wordless Wednesday entries. I'm so glad you joined in Robert's project this week.

I have a soft spot for old cars as well, spending time in the garage with my dad, going to car shows . . . good stuff! :D
