Skywatch: Throwback Thursday

Last week was a whirlwind weather wise in my little world. The above photo is the oak tree in my backyard after a 12+ inch wet snowfall. It was beautiful but not without problems. It started with a warm day and snowmelt from a previous storm. Then the rain started which led to a day's rain with subsequent flooding and the governor of WV calling a state of emergency. Then, the rain turned to snow and it piled up quickly.

Come evening the snow had stopped and this was the sunset in my front yard. A couple of hours later we found ourselves without any power and the generator we had wouldn't work. Luckily our gas fireplace was enough to stay warm through the night. The next day my Hubby took the generator apart and fixed it and we were good to go till the power was restored. Our community had been asked to conserve water as well.

The sky was a gorgeous brilliant blue for a few hours that morning in our wonderland world. It was hard not to just sit and stare at the beauty that surrounded us. I felt like I was looking at the set of a Frozen movie and Anna and Elsa and Olaf must certainly be just around the bend. Problems arise with any storm but the beauty I saw and experienced will stay with me a long time.

Watery Wednesday: Ice, Ice, ....

My post for Watery Wednesday is a little less traditional than what we usually see in the meme. With all the snow and cold weather we had this past week I was finally able to capture some icicles and other frozen images. I hope you enjoy.

This icicle was hanging from a patio chair. I thought it looked like some alien ice creature. The extension on the left reminds me of the Michelin Man's arm. Look closely, do you see his chubby fingers. The middle extension comes down into a clear shaped big shoe. Be sure to click to enlarge to see the detail.
This is a shot of my glass topped patio table.
A Closeup
I guess nature decided my chair arm needed to be wider. :)
This is a negative of another shot of the top of the table.
Evidence of water on the moon? Ha!

Reflections....After the Storm

In my post yesterday the whirling snow from Saturday's storm left little to the imagination. Yesterday was an entirely different story. The sun shone brightly on the white glistening landscape that reflected back its surroundings. The old oak in my yard spread her branches on the blanket of white.

The icicles hanging
precariously from the dripping gutter left their image on the gray clapboard siding of the house.

The dormant wisteria vines watched themselves in the puddled water of ice melting on the hottub cover.

Reflections of winter.
