Wild Birds: House Finch

This week I had a couple of lovely little house finches visit the backyard feeder. Mrs. Finch wasn't too keen on getting her picture taken but I'm hoping she'll change her mind once she's a little more comfortable.
I'll let the photos speak for themselves so click on the first and enjoy the slide show.

Linking to Wild Bird Wednesday.

House Fiches are a lovely looking species to have around Carletta. Your pictures do them justice. The second one looks a little like a young bird but I guess it's the wrong time of year and not knowing your precise location.

I have ID some house finches recently. I've just started to try to identify birds beyond the basic ones I do know by sight.

You've perhaps solved a mystery, Carletta. I got photos of some small birds that had the same brown "pinto" markings but they didn't have the red breast. Could they still be finches? Do you have a general purpose book you'd recommend for bird ID?

Hope these cuties grow less suspicious of you. Would like to see more of them.

Pretty!!!! I've seen them in Colorado when we lived there, but none here in South Texas.

Great photos Carletta. Oh, and LOVED your response in my comments yesterday about "is there any other kind of butter...real butter?" Touché

Thanks for the enthusiastic welcoming back! Your pictures are beautiful, as ever! I'm so glad you came and commented...I deleted everything when I deleted my blog and that included the blogs I followed....so I need everyone to come comment so that I can come visit! I remembered the two or three I had followed for years, and there were a few of you on there as followers, but the rest I need to find. Augh! At least I got rid of the zip file emails!

Wonderful closeups of these pretty little birds. I've had a couple at my feeder the last few days. But they are too quick for me to get a picture.
