Watching The Skies

Meet Bobby. Bobby is our resident groundhog. At least we think he might still be a resident. Bobby came to live underneath our little shed this summer. It is nearby our garden; but we don't think he ever went into the garden. This picture was taken the end of September. It's the last time I saw him so we aren't sure if he is hibernating under the shed or took off to spend the winter somewhere else. I'm going to be on the lookout for him today. Should he peek his head out I'm hoping the sun stays hidden and he doesn't see his shadow. We have had two straight days of sixty degree weather and it has made me long for more of the same and for the warm days of spring. Six more weeks of winter just isn't appealing. Bobby, you need to stay hidden. Do you hear me!!
`
I took this photo Monday morning from my front porch. It was a stunning sunrise. As I'm typing this to post just after midnight the weatherman is predicting rain and maybe even thunderstorms overnight so as dawn approaches it probably won't be this lovely. So again Bobby, no need to come out - STAY HIDDEN!!!

Update: I haven't seen Round the Bend Bobby but heard the news that the more famous Puxatawney Phil has seen his shadow and six more weeks of winter is upon us. In my world today even though the sun is shining brightly (darn those shadows) it is expected to be fourteen degrees colder than the previous two days. (sigh)

I hope Bobby stays hidden! Technically speaking we're only just in the middle of Winter, aren't we? Yet, as February comes we start dreaming of March, and March means Spring. And Spring means warmer days!

It's -9°C here, and the wind makes it feel like it's -20! Brrrr! But the good part is, the sun is out, and the weather is very clear. I like that. But I sure as hell don't want six more weeks of this weather!

Hi Carletta
This "Ground Hog" day - I thought when these little ferret like animals appeared, Spring was coming?
Surely after reading Jientje's weather report - warmer days would be welcome? -9c with wind factor of -20c, how do you cope for three winter months???? Brrr's with extras - makes me shiver reading it!

I haven't seen any signs of Bobby here in Tennessee, but if he were to be here he would definitely see his shadow. That's too bad! I love your sunrise photo.

Beautiful sunrise and darling Groundhog! I think Round the Bend Bobby is just smarter than ol Phil not to come out until he is good and ready!

Gorgeous sunrise here. Well here in MI whose winter is really cold, yet this time we don't have that much snow. And it feels spring all the time. ^_^

Stunning sunrise shot, Carletta! And from your front porch!

The sunrise shot is fantastic. So much beauty. I'm not sure how I feel about the arrival of spring. On the one hand I'm not in a hurry since we have had such up and down weather I don't really feel like it's been much of a winter. But the flowers are so far ahead of themselves in my neck of the woods, an extra cold lengthy blast would already do a lot of damage.

Beautiful photos--especially the last one. GORGEOUS!!!!

We haven't had much winter at all this year, so either we'll have a whopper of a winter storm this month --or we'll finish out the winter with fairly mild weather... I truly think that Mother Nature forgot about putting winter on this year's calendar... ha ha

You'll have to 'splain to our Aussie friend, Colin, about Groundhog Day.
Hugs,
Betsy

The sky colors are so precious!

After the rain, we get to see great skies and clouds. I hope you will see the same!

Hi Carletta
As my good mate, Betsy, has written, please explain this "Ground Hog day" business.
I have certainly heard the expression in the US, but I never asked what it was. Actually I thought I was having my leg pulled!
A USA joke to confuse the foreigners who visit??
I suppose I could have "wickedly" replied well "We have a Kangaroo Day"!!! I think I could have had some fun with that one!!!!
I had many encounters with people in the USA especially in the mid-west, Kansas etc. and even in California, who thought kangaroos were jumping up and down all over the streets of Sydney etc.! I sure put a stop to those ideas.
So please, someone e-mail me, and tell me what this "Ground Hog Day" is! OK?
Cheers
Colin

Ok, I've read a few comments and Mr. Floridian I wonder if you still hide behind your camera. :)
When I saw the Sir Lancelot comment last night you were my first thought. I didn't see these other comments till this morning.
Warm hugs.
