A Valley of Fog

(do click to enlarge for best detail)
Hubby and I left in the early morning hours a couple of weeks ago to spend Christmas at our daughter's home. We cross a couple of mountains at a fairly high elevation. As we topped one of those mountains and started down the other side on an overcast day this was the scene we came upon.
I can't see fog and not begin reciting Carl Sandburg's poem I learned years ago in Jr. High School.

"The fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on."

As you can see it also sits below the mountains and engulfs the valleys before rising to the sky and fading away.

Linking to Skywatch.

Almost as if you were in a plane looking down. I always think of that poem on foggy mornings (we had a lot of them in Oregon).

I had forgotten Sandburg's poem. Thanks for the reminder. Your photo is wonderful -- I haven't been able to get a good similar shot, although I have tried a couple of times.

What a terrific shot--just beautiful. I had forgotten about that Carl Sandburg poem--I think we all learned it in school. Hope your New Year is off to a great start. I look forward to following your blog in 2012 (gosh, it sounds strange and unbelievable to say 2012). What happened to the 90's and the 2000's!!!! Mickie :)

Beautiful image Carletta. It must have been so very peaceful with the fog swallowing the sound up there as well.
