Wild Bird Wednesday

Encounters With Geese
I live on five acres of land as do my neighbors. A few of them have large ponds on their property so we are accustomed to seeing Canadian Geese almost year round. I often hear them honking as they fly overhead and I'm always inside and miss the photo opportunity. One day in early April I kept hearing a loud honk and went to investigate. This fellow in the above photo was in the field between me and my neighbor and almost in my front yard. I grabbed the camera hoping he'd stay a few more minutes. If you enlarge the image you can see him cocking his head looking at the sky.
He continued to walk back and forth honking as I snapped photos through the living room window.
He continued to honk and look up at the sky. I noticed he had a partner further down in the woods out of my camera's reach. I thought I could slip out on the deck and get some more shots but as I passed the sunroom window I saw them flying off. Our adventure lasted a little under three minutes.
A month earlier I snapped this photo along the riverbank where the Ohio and Muskingum rivers meet. There had been a lot of flooding and both rivers were way out of their banks.
These two appeared to be content to sun on the bank rather than swim.

Graceful aren't they? Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

you live in a wonderful part of the world--thanks for sharing. Though I will confess I'm a bit afraid of geese, they can be ferocious and have quite a bite. Yes I have been "goosed" before.

You are so lucky to be able to live there and see all these. What beautiful "honkers" those are. :)

Great captures of the Canada Geese! We get hundreds of them staging on our cove in the fall. They are sure fun to watch.

They're magnificent birds.
I did enlarge the first photo, and sure enough, he has his head "cocked" to the sky; very funny!

Very nice captures. I like how the goose's markings match the ripples in the water on the next to the last shot. :)

Nice captures Carletta. I often wonder what that honking is all about. C. Geese are an amazing sight that I never tire of but I'd just as soon not have them in my yard!

Hiya Carletta,
thank you for stopping by my (fragile) birdblog.
I know how it feels to have a bird photo session cut off so quickly, and wish they'd stay still for me a bit longer :-)
Hopefully they will return and show off their youngsters.

Nice captures! Canada geese are such beautiful birds, although they're so common that sometimes it's easy to overlook them.

Seems like there are geese everywhere. I almost ran over one today...crossing a main street.
