Mr. and Mrs. Downy Woodpecker come to dine at our back deck daily. Usually one comes and then the other. A couple of times this past week I found them both dining at the same time. Usually the Mrs. hanging around on the deck floor picking up dropped crumbs. It was a matter of waiting patiently to capture them both on the suet feeder together. Here they are enjoying each other's company for a late afternoon snack. They don't always seem to get along. Yesterday I saw the Mr. being a little 'peckie' towards his mate when she got to close to his side of the feeder. They need to be kind to each other. I want to see baby Downys!

Carletta, I just love your posts. You make me smile!
Neat, Carletta. Our Downys don't come to the feeders at the same time. One will come and then the other. You captured a fabulous picture.
Hugs,
Betsy
I saw a downy woodpecker for the first time ever at my bird feeder this winter. Someone on Facebook told me what it was after I posted his photo and query about him. :)
what a fun picture.
Love these guys.. Your patience to capture them is a blessing to me! Thank you!
How cool that you were able to capture this! Awesome
What a wonderful picture! Thank you for being so patient and for sharing the results. I hope you do get pictures of the babies (and share them with us). I miss my bird feeders and enjoy your vicariously.
Wow -- that was kind of a wide-open challenge this week wasn't it? You picked a beautiful "anything".
I'm jealous of all your bird shots. I never catch birdy pictures.

I don't think I've ever seen a female downy woodpecker. This is a great shot!
Beautiful bird capture. I threw bread on my patio the other day in search of interesting birds
Great photo of the Downies. I usually see one at a time.
Lovely shot! We had a pair visit us only this morning.
I'm surprised you caught them together at all. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Lovely shot!
Hi, Carletta. Sorry it's been so long since I stopped by. I feel that I've neglected my bloggy friends for such a long time now. How nice that you have a pair of downy woodpeckers. I'm sure they'll be bringing juveniles to your feeders by mid-summer.
fighting for their lives hehe
Oh how gorgeous!
My Camera Critter post, have a nice weekend.
What a great capture! Your bird shots are always so amazing!
Great capture. Bird social life can be a mystery. He sounds a bit bossy.
