Barn Charm on Ruby Tuesday

This is another of my found Quilt Barns. For new readers here it is a Quilt Barn because of the square quilt pattern painted and hung on the barn. They are all over our country. If you aren't familiar with the history click here for a link that explains their beginnings. The lady responsible was born here in West Virginia just a few miles from where I grew up. It was a rainy misty day last July when we passed by this barn and lighting wasn't very desirable; but I think you can still see the beauty it beholds.
This is a closeup of the quilt pattern. I tried finding a name for the pattern but haven't been successful so far. Hubs and I have a two story barn-like detached garage that I hope will have its own quilt pattern square sometime this summer.

The barn, although in wonderful shape, might seem to some as nondescript. angular in shape, monochrome in white, and sitting on a gray day, not much jumps at us.

Yet, the ruby quilt pattern catches our attention. Not so much in a big way, but it just adds such an aura to the barn. It is a nice find - and should your barn get a quilt of its own, you have to post it. We can't wait to see!!

I had not heard of or seen a Quilt Barn before. What a unique and wonderful idea. I love quilt patterns and am in awe of all the loving work that goes into a quilt. I have several that my Mother,as a young girl, and her Mother worked on--a true treasure. Thank you for a lovely post. Loved the music too.

I'd say that is quite the magnificent dairy barn. While the colors may not be striking or brilliant (thus the need for quilt decoration) the building itself is a thing of beauty.
Do you have photos of it from the other end?
In its day this would have been considered a large operation.

Definitely see the beauty & charm it beholds... that's a huge working farm... we don't see many of those in my neck of the woods, although, there's a few east of here, but I'm usually wandering around the countryside west of here...

Can't wait to see pics of your quilt pattern, cuz I know you'll show pics for us all to see!!! =)

A ton of thanks for joining, Carletta... much appreciation! =)

What a great barn especially with the quilt design - never seen one of those before now! Looks like a barn I might see in my native Wisconsin.

Great post Carletta. Thanks for the link. We've seen the quilt barns in our travels -- nice to have a place to look up the history.

I love this whole idea. Up in Reading PA there is a barn hex sign tour. Kind of the same idea.

Carletta, thank you for your great picture of the quilt barn! I am thrilled that you are enjoying the quilt barns. You mentioned that I grew up near where you lived? Most of my childhood was on the Elk River, Crede.

The quilt trails now extend coast to coast - 30 states plus Ontario and Prince Edward Island.

I wanted to let you know about our event happening here in Adams County, Ohio. Please consder attending. I'll post the info below.

Please feel free to call me if you want to chat. When I visit family next time - perhaps we could meet up for coffee? I would like that!

Do you know it has been 10 years since the first quilt barn square was installed in Adams County, Ohio? A dream and a vision of mine to honor my mother, my West Virginia heritage, our agricultural heritage and quilting has blossomed into a multi-nation quilt barn trail phenomenon (30 states and 2 provinces in Canada) that is now celebrating a decade of trails.

Join our Facebook page and post some of your great pictures and the link to your blog.

We are celebrating this achievement with the Quilt Trail Gathering this May 13-14th here in Adams County, Ohio. Noted speakers and a lot of sharing will be featured.

Details about the Gathering are available on our website (www.quilttrailgathering.com). (www.facebook.com/quilttrailgathering).

We welcome you to register and join us at this special event and please share this information with whomever you think may be interested.

PS: what is the song that plays on your blog? It is so sweet -- almost makes me cry. thank you!

It's a long time since the last comment but it doesn't look as if anyone has told you the name of the quilt block that you like on the barn quilt. The block is called Hunter's Star.
