Thursday Theme Song

Turn up your speakers! Listen!
It's Electric!
You can't see it
It's electric!
You gotta feel it
It's electric!
Ooh, it's shakin'
It's electric!

I was sitting in the parking lot of a hardware store waiting for hubby this week and there against the fluffy clouded blue sky stood this amazing electric pole and all its attachments. The words 'it's electric' just popped into my head and just as you are now, I KNOW you are, I was singing out loud. I have seen Anni's meme over at Thom's place and thought I should join in and this seemed the perfect time to do just that.
I first heard this song when my daughter was in elementary school. Her PE teacher taught the kids the slide and it was the highpoint of their week to go to PE class. Then, just a couple of weeks ago we attended my nephew's wedding and sure enough it was played a few times. You can't help yourself you just have to move when you hear this song!
The lyrics themselves conjur up a memory from long ago when I was a young girl of between six and eight years old and always comes to mind if I think about electricity for more than a few minutes.

(If you have time stick around and hear my story; if not, I understand so go ahead to the comments and thanks for coming and listening. ) :)

The story begins that my brother and I played with a set of twin girls across the street from us when we were growing up. Their grandfather was building a new brick house right beside his old wooden one. One day my brother and I went over to play. I usually played with Candy and my brother usually played with Sandy. On this day after we had been there awhile my brother and Sandy came and told Candy and I that they wanted to show us something. Along we went. We came up between the two house structures to a metal pole in the ground. They told us the pole tickled and wanted us to touch it with our finger. You see where this story is going don't you? After a few minutes of not wanting to be called a fraidy-cat I reached out and took hold of the pole with my whole hand. Luckily I had my other hand wrapped around the wooden porch pole of the old house. My body was shaking all over and I couldn't let go. The others started screaming and running for our parents. It took my Dad, my Grandpa, and the girls Grandfather to pull me from the pole. I cried and cried.
The pole held electric wires for the new house and had not been grounded.
It was an innocent dare that I took; but it could have taken my life. In fact they were pretty sure it would have if I hadn't grounded myself by having my other arm wrapped around the wooden pole. The electricity went through my arms from one pole to the other instead of all through me.
There's a line in the song that says, "She's movin' like electric" - I was!

Oh my goodness, that was a really close call. It is a good thing you touched the other pole and the guys were around to get you free. I did something very similar when I was about six. After a storm the electric wire running into our house has come loose and dropped way down. It was summer and I had been playing in the sprinklers. Mom told me to turn off the water and come inside. While I was turning off the metal water faucet, standing in a puddle, I reached up to swing the wire above my head. Fortunately my dad pulled into the driveway about the same time. The next thing I remember was waking up on our front porch.

It's Electric!
BTW, my hubby works for the power company!

WOAH!!! WHAT A STORY. You are soo very lucky my friend. It amazes me as kids what we do and that any of us are alive today to talk about it. How wonderful that you are playing. I'm thrilled and this is just wonderful. I featured this song a couple of weeks ago in Musical Monday :) LOL I love it and your photos go so well with it. Brilliant and welcome my "electric" sparking friend :)

Oh, my!! You are so lucky!!

I've always been so afraid of electricity...

( but-like you- I do find those poles and all the attachments interesting to look at)

We had a horrible accident in our neighborhood when my kids were growing up. A young kid was killed . My son and several others were at this new neighbor's house and the boys were playing a pinball machine in the garage- on a wet floor...This new kid was showing off the pinball machine his dad had got and none of them realizing the dangerous situation. When the boy started shaking-at first the others thought the kid was playing around-as boys will- you know...pretending something bad was happening. My son realized and gave him a big push away from the machine, but not soon enough. He died in the presence of several boys, including my son. (the boy was 14- the others also young teens)

wow! I'm so glad you lived to tell the tale! I don't know why kids dare other kids to do dangerous things like that! I do like your photo's in relation to your theme song. very creative.

I hope this was the last time you touched anything that wasn't grounded. I wasn't familiar with this song, but your photos certainly fit.

Oh My Gosh... That is scary... So glad you were okay after doing that... Wooooooo---that makes me chill just thinking about it...

I don't know the song --but your photos are perfect while listening to it... Electricity is nothing to MESS with. Yipes...

My brother and I grew up across the street from a pair of twin boys. My brother and the twins were daredevils who are lucky they never came into contact with anything like that or there'd be one missing from that trio left today.
Yes, you are very lucky you survived. What an amazing story!

Do you mean to tell me you don't go into the hardware store with him. I'm sure he follows you to all your stores. :)
