Ruby Tuesday: Hummingbird Silhouette

(enlarge for best view)
Some of you may remember my hummingbird feeder from a Shadow Shot post back in April. I was finally able to capture one of the little guys with my camera lens. Although he is only in silhouette I like how the image came out. He looks so still and suspended but the motion of his wings is still very evident.
I've had two hummingbirds for most of the summer. Lately I've only seen one and know that within days this little guy will also disappear. The feeder empties more quickly these days so I know he's getting ready to depart for the winter. He seems to have enjoyed my Rose of Sharon bushes and my red geraniums. I'm hoping he liked his daily buffet enough to come back next summer!

Hummingbirds are so fascinating and hard to capture with the camera!

This is so sweet and what beautiful color, simplicity and composition! I wish the little guy well on his journey south. My mother used to live in the high elevations of the mountains not too far from me. Her little community took their hummingbird feeders down by late September to encourage the little guys to be on their way before cold nights could harm them or worse. She was always sad to send them off but knew it was best. :(

That's a really cool shot Carletta. I've been trying all summer, but haven't got any good shots in flight. My hummers seem to have departed but I still have the feeder up just in case a stragler stops by.

Very nice capture. My hummingbirds have headed south so I will have to wait till the end of May to see them again.

Nice! I love this capture. I have spent the summer photographing hummingbirds and I know this didn't come easily!

Very nice, Carletta! I see hummingbirds here, but I don't encourage them because of my kitties.

At work, sometimes if my boss wore and old flowered welder's cap, hummingbirds would think the flowers real and try to get to them while he was wearing the hat!

Beautiful capture of the hummingbird, Carletta! The feeder is such a ruby red, too. Nice post.

Sorry I've been a stranger. I've been neglecting my blog and my blog friends. Hope you are well.

This photo is absolutely fantastic -- a stunning capture. We've had several hummingbirds around this year, but I think some have already left. Like you, we hope our hummingbirds will come back next year.

This is a stunning view! I feel the furious flapping motions of the bird, working to stay aloft just enough to capture the delicious nectar within. Sweet view, and a sweet treat for your feathered friend!

Wonderful shot. Do you stop feeding them at some point so that they will leave? Or do they just stop feeding when it's time to go.

I used to have bird feeders in Oregon, lots of them, but never really fed hummers.

I love how you captured the movement of his wings. I love hummingbirds, I'm intrigued by them, that's because we don't have any here in Belgium.

I love it. I can never get a good shot of a hummingbird. I tried this weekend with no success.

Oh, you must so proud of this shot! It's wonderful. Truly.

We had lots of visits to our hummer feeder early in the summer but then they just stopped coming after a few weeks. :-(
