Sepia Scenes: Railroad Bridge

This is only part of a railroad bridge that crosses the Ohio river at Gallipolis, Ohio. I had the wrong lens in my camera yesterday to capture the entire bridge so I settled for this small section as I sat waiting for the Hubs to get us some cool drinks from the service station. It was a hot and hazy day which only added to the ambiance of the old steel structure. I'm always amazed at the stone supports holding up these old bridges. One would think they would have crumbled long ago and this one is well over a hundred years old.

The iron bridge has a functional beauty that emerges here, seeing only of a portion of the span, suggests that the bridge itself has moved into the frame from the righ - who needs the iron-horse for motion?

You created a beautiful, misty portrait with the "wrong" lens. Like a picture postcard.

Excellent, Carletta. It looks an honest-to-goodness old timey photo. :)

Wow, great photo, Carletta. It does look old fashioned with the sepia.
I should show you my photo of a train trestle at the confluence of two rivers..I'll have to look for it.

I laughed when you said "Patti, Patti, Patti," in your comment the other day
A much younger co-worker used to say that to me -- a lot. Too funny!! You reminded me of her.

Perfection! I want this to be the cover of a book about traveling by rail -- to somewhere where the heroine has never been.

I love this picture. I have a love/hate thing with bridges.

The sepia tone adds a touch of authenticity to the age of this old bridge and beautiful cement work. Good think you had the wrong lens with you - this came out beautifully!

Hey there! I saw you had stopped by my old blog a few times. I obviously never really picked it back up. My job change almost 2 years ago kinda did me in for blogging. I started a photography blog but am delinquent on updating that one as well. Hope you are doing well. :)

Hi Carletta,

Wonderful old bridge and still in use. Amazing.

I've been so busy dealing with retirement, I've done very little visiting lately. But now I can tap, tap, tap, well into the night, if I like.

Hugs
Annie

I like seeing one support and not the other indicating
there's more to come. A very effective shot!

Wonderful, wonderful shot. So timeless, I expect to see a steam train crossing it any minute now.
