Reflections: Roses and Motherhood

For the purpose of Weekend Reflections James asks us to post a photograph that contains a visual refection of somebody or something that appears in a mirror or other reflecting surface. In the above image my valentine/birthday roses from a few days ago are reflected in the little round glass topped table by my recliner.
Today I'm not only considering visual reflections but contemplative reflections of where the years have gone since I gave birth to my first born. It seems like yesterday he was just a little guy following and watching his Daddy intent on the whys and hows. His first plastic tools still take up space in the attic along with GI Joes, Transformers, Hotwheels, Boy Scout uniforms and a bright red Pearl drumset. However, the endless hours of playing with toys, riding bikes, earning badges and playing in a band are long gone.
Looking back today it's hard to realize where those days have gone and just how quickly they've come to pass. In truth, thirty years have passed hardly without notice. Today the little boy who stole our hearts the day he was born has grown into a fine young man and his father and I couldn't be more proud of who he's become.
Happy 30th Birthday Chris
Love, Mom and Dad

What a handsome man your baby has become, and what a beautiful post you've written to mark the occasion.

I can't figure out where 9 years have gone, I can't even imagine how I'll feel when mine turns thirty...

What sentimental reflections for today! The table reflection is so beautiful and perfect. And, your reflection on time and family is such a treasure. How good your son will feel when he sees this post, if not already...family is the beating heart of the world.

Lovely reflections on both counts Carletta. The years pass so quickly. Our daughters are 36 and 34 now. Our six granddaughters are growing up so quickly too. The oldest is 12 already. Happy Birthday Chris.

Wow - thanks for making me choke on my morning bagel as I was reading this heartfelt post. I've been feeling very sentimental lately about my kids growing up.

That reflection you've captured is exquisite.

Your son is so handsome. Makes a momma proud, eh?

We are, by and large, a reflection of our parents.

And Chris, your Fine Young Man, is a fitting reflection of you.

Happy Birthday, Lad, and congratulations to Mom and Dad.

You couldn't disown him even if you wanted - he has your facial features. :) Such a handsome young man!

This was a beautiful post, Carletta. I know exactly what you mean about the years passing so quickly. My son will be 32 in August and I'm still trying to figure out where the time went. Great photos!
