I've been practicing my photography skills this week and had been trying to accomplish some soft focus shots of some roses. I was trying to do that in camera and not post processing. The practicing will continue. Above are two shots that seemed more out of focus than soft focus and I didn't fully like the result. I used my software to add texture to them and I am quite pleased with how they came out. I'll use these to make homemade greeting cards.

What a grand idea to use these on handmade greeting cards! I think they would suit most occasions.
You need to start your own greeting card company my friend and/or send them to Better Homes and Gardens. These are just picture perfect. I love them. I would love to see them the way you tried with your camera to see what you are talking about with the texture. Rookie I know LOL :) Have a wonderful Monday :)

My problem is always wanting to have too much in a picture. Less for sure is more.
A lovely choice for a card.
I find red flowers in particular the hardest to shoot - it's so easy (at least for me) to end up with all the highlights blown and no definition at all.

Beautiful photos of the rose. I think using them on homemade greeting cards is a great idea.

If anything, the slightly out of focus view allows the shape and texture of the rose to stand out more. On film, I used a K1000, all manual SLR, and mere exposure and focus changes often changed the mood of the same subject. Someday for us, a digital SLR. Your experimentation is beautiful!

Practicing never ends, does it. I usually forget my camera setting and have to practice all over again. But...it's so much fun! I love these roses and the texture is so nice. They will make wonderful greeting cards...

I think these are simply beautiful. When you are going for the soft focus, do you just not focus it all the way? I'm curious? Is it in manual focus?

These will make great cards. For an added touch, buy a bit of rose potpourri and put a flower petal into the card to add scent.
