How Does Your Garden Grow?

You can clearly see my garden exploded in growth while I was away.
Hello gentle readers! It's good to be back in blogland. We had a wonderful visit with our kids and grandkids and when I get the almost 400 pics downloaded and organized I'll be posting new pics of the babies who are growing as fast as the weeds in my garden.
As you can see I have a little work to tend to before I can do very much of anything else. A garden filled with homegrown veggies is the most natural thing on earth to me. I grew up with fresh garden food that my Dad worked hard to plant and grow and reap the rewards of for our family dinner table. He would work the soil, plant the seed and then wait for nature to take its course always hoping the rain would come when it was needed. Many times though I did see him carry water to the tomato plants to give them at least a little drink. We had well water so there was none of this turning the water on and giving the garden a soaking. Besides, Dad wouldn't have wasted the water. Many years ago I bought him a little garden sign. I can't quote it exactly now but it said something that included "one is nearer God's heart in a garden than anywhere else on earth." I hope there's some little garden of some kind in heaven that Dad gets to help take care of. It sure would make him happy.
Dad would be proud of the bounty out of my garden; but I can't take any credit. All the credit goes to my dear Hubs for his hard work in making our garden grow. I think he did a splendid job this summer. We have all you see and he still has to pick hot peppers and cherry tomatoes!
I'm not sure what meat will be on the platter tonight for dinner; but I do know fresh green beans, coleslaw, and sliced tomatoes with cottage cheese will definitely fill up the rest of the plate!

I came anticipating photos of your grand, grand-girls. I love watching them grow!

Speaking of growing, your garden did a great job! What a wonderful harvest. You forgot to mention. What time is dinner?

BEAUTIFUL!

This is another reason I enjoy fall; harvest season. We have a little side garden, enough tomatoes and cukes to dress the table but not enough to can. Thank goodness for a great farmers market and local produce farms.
So glad you are back and I am looking forward to a pictorial report of your Grands.

Welcome back! Your garden really produced some lovelies. My dad used to grow strawberries. They were so delicious. I'm sure he's gardening away to his hearts' contentment in Heaven.

That is a beautiful bountiful harvest! Yep - you better do something with it before it spoils!

An impressive bounty Carletta, you have your own farmer's market :) I think it's wonderful that you've carried on your Dad's tradition of growing vegetables and that your husband has a keen interest in tending one. My Dad was an excellent gardener too but I'm afraid I didn't carry on that tradition. Never too late however and I always say one of these days!

Wow! What a wonderful crop your husband produced. Glad you had a great visit with your kids/grandkids. Wonderful memory of your father. My dad had a little vegetable garden in the back yard that he tended with great joy. And my NC niece has just started working on starting an organic garden. She's a vegan so they are hoping to make this a large part of their sustenance.

Good to have you back.

Your dad reminds me of mine, except, mine is still here with us. I do hope your dad has a little garden of his own up there, but I AM SURE he keeps an eye on yours down here too, sending a little rain ( not too much, he doesn't want to waste any) if and when it's needed because your veggies sure look delicious!! Glad you're back Carletta, looking forward to see your pictures...

Good to see you back! And um...what time is supper? :)
There's nothing as good as veggies fresh out of the garden.

Hi Carletta, Yes this is a beautiful harvest from your garden. Nothing is as good as the food from your own garden. It is also fun to produce good meals. You had a lovely time with your family and I am looking forward to see some of your photo skill. Have a nice weekend.

Yumm! That reminds me that I will have to till the soil soon for next year's garden.

Is there any greater satisfaction than wondering what to cook, going into the garden to take a lok and coming back in with salad greens and vegetables fit for a king and fresh as morning dew. A wonderful array of produce and sweet story of your father as well.

What a wonderful tribute to your Dad. I think that generation understood more about environmental issues than many people today. Welcome back Carletta...I know you enjoyed your visit, but I am happy to see you back...Thank you for posting to Nature Notes.. Michelle

Delicious collage. A little cotton tail has enjoyed our green pepper garden just below the kitchen window. I love fresh veggies. Pappy

You've gotten some mighty good eating out of your garden. I can't think of anything better than fresh, home-grown vegetables.

Your garden bounty looks good. If it wasn't for the weeds and bugs gardening would be much funner, though.

Welcome back! What a haul! They all look delish! Sounds like your Dad was a lot like mine. Made me smile reading about him. Who knows? Maybe they're tending a garden together?
