Camera Critters: Peek-A-Boo Hawks

I was startled to see this hawk and did not think I would be able to get him at all. After all I was stopped in the middle of the road and grabbing for my camera. I just have to live with the fact that he wanted to play peek-a-boo from behind that branch rather than pose for a really good portrait!
I'm enclosing this blurry one because I was amazed that as soon as I clicked my camera "Cooper" seemingly did a backflip off that branch to fly away.
It's really a good thing I'm surrounded by rural roads because I was stopped in the middle of the road when I took this one too. If you look closely or enlarge the image I think you can see his red tail.
I think he was more interested in the chickens in the yard below him than he was in me. I was able to get another shot of him in his lofty position.

Great shots. I love the motion photo.

I wish I was riding with you. I am forever hollering at OC to stop in the middle of the road but he just won't do it!

Great pictures, love the second one best!! The one with the red tail looks rather mean I think! What a great place to live you have!

Lovely set of photos, they are truly amazing birds and your photos were very enjoyable. I got so frustrated last weekend trying to find some hawks. None to be found in the wood I walked through but many on telephone wires on too busy a road to stop safely.

Carletta: Those were nice captures of the Coopers and Red Tailed Hawk.

Be sure to put on your flashers when you stop to let others know.

Great shots! I tried to get a shot of a hawk the other day, but it flew off before I could take the shot.

Good series. I often find the pesky limbs or tall grass is in the way at the most inopportune times.

I do see hawks around here occasionally, but I don't have the pleasure of rural roads, people tend to get angry if you stop in the street to take pictures. -grin-

I played CC twice today at Rattitude and My Ordinary Things

Great hawk shots!!

If I were driving down the road and saw you stopped in the middle of it shooting hawks, I'd stop and shoot them with you!

Those hawks can be hard to photograph. Great catch though, and I do see the red tail.

I know what you mean abut stopping in the middle of the road to take a photo! Nice photos. I find they fly away as son as they spot me and my camera - very frustrating!

I so much wished to see them in real. I think I have seen a hawk in a zoo long time ago !

Excellent shots and not an easy bird to capture!

I love to see these birds, but not when they are after my chickens!

i like the one you called blurry - i would say it is an action shot, and really shows how the hawk moves!!

Great shots, good thing it was country roads. The last 2 days I have seen a Hawk sitting on a light pole....in the median of the interstate. Today I was looking at the clock and trying to figure if I took the next exit and came back and pulled over would I be late for work. Decided I probably needed to go on either way. Glad you could pull over.
