Sepia Scenes:
Mini Me and An Amish Corn Hopper

Last week Mary suggested we try a portrait for our sepia scene. I chose to show this original sepia photo from my childhood. Yes, this little chubby cheeked girl is me at around four years old. I have done nothing to the photo except scan it. If it weren't sepia all the actual colors would make for a very busy photo. The sofa I'm sitting on is a dark burgundy color. I have to ask my Mom when I can show her the picture again; but I believe the jumper is a turquoise color with black belt and buttons and the shirt a pale yellow. Of course my hair is strawberry blond. I'm more than happy that sepia was the color of choice at the time!
What am I doing with my hand like that you might be wondering. I was supposed to be catching a ball. Not my catching pose for sure. And, the photographer came door to door. This was taken in our living room. He came to the door, Mom changed my clothes, and the photo session began. My how things have changed!
An Amish Corn Hopper
Sugarcreek, Ohio
November 2008

I took this last week on a short visit to the Amish countryside of Sugarcreek, Ohio. The old wood and metal hopper sitting in the corn field waiting to be hooked up to a team of horses captured my attention. It certainly evokes a time gone by don't you think?

I had to laugh about all those colors you described. I remember photos like this, too.

Ahh very cute Carletta! The second shot looks like it should be from our good ole sepia/black and white days...

Sepia portraits give out a sense of golden memories explored :)

Such a lovely and cute little one!! yes, it would have been a very busy picture if the true colors would have shown, lol.
The second shot seems 200 yrs old, very beautiful!

I love that you would put up a photo of yourself you consider less than perfect.

Of course, I also love the photo! What a cute kid.

The second picture is great..
Looks like the old wood and metal hopper was an omission of a world war.

You look adorable. Sepia lends itself to going back in time.

You look kind of mischievous in that picture but I know that you had to be a perfect little angel. :) I like sepia photos...there's just something special about them.

Wonderful takes on the theme Carletta. Both photos though totally different are a delightful look into the past.

Most things Amish evoke thoughts of times gone by. Actually, that's pretty much all things Amish. So anything shot in Amish country would be a natural for sepia toning. Nice effect!

You are a cutey. Glad you explained the hand thing bc I was wondering what was going on there. Both images are timeless.

Weren't you just a little doll baby! I think all the busy colors of the day, and lack of resources for color coordinating MIGHT have been the reason for B&W and Sepia being such popular choices. No one would ever knOw if your clothes were mismatched! Ya know... some of today's TOP fashion models should ONLY be photographed in sepia!!! LOL! We only have I think 2 photographs of me as a child that are in color... of course... wayyyy back then color had just been invented!

Anyway... both shots are great! What a neat hopper!

There used to be a lot of wagons like this one around but I have not seen one in ages. This one brought back a lot of memories.

You were so cute! Amazing how you remember the colours of the couch and of what you were wearing though.
