There's A Turkey In My Yard
(enlarge for a more detailed view)
This is the most recent turkey visitor to my yard. 'Jake' has been coming by recently with the hens and eating the bird seed that falls out of the bird feeder. From watching them in my yard this spring I don't think he's quite a year old yet. Check out his beard hanging there in the front. It will get longer as he matures. In the meantime we'll fatten him up with bird seed and maybe a little corn!
On this particular day Jake ate in the company of Thumper the squirrel and her friend under the oak tree. They all love the seed from the bird feeder hanging just above their heads but out of sight.

oh oh... does this mean he may be thanksgiving dinner?..........
We have turkeys in the neighbourhood but not in our yard. Are they as stupid as legend has it?
Two critters, and so different. Wonderful catch.
Oh my goodness what a visitor you have, since you named him i can't imagine it being a dinner turkey. I never could eat anything i had a name too.
Oh I haven't seen Turkey in my neighborhood yet. That's adorable and the squirrel are soo cute.
Lily is a beauty and a nice turkey here..sandy
Such wonderful shots! Happy CCS!
Sounds like a regular party going on around your feeder!
Later are we going to see a photo of Jake dressed for dinner at your Thanksgiving table?
So nice that they all hang out together like that. I've never seen a wild turkey up close. So many wonderful creatures in the world.
Love the squirrel sitting there just hanging out. Yes, I got your comment (I have it set to email me so I don't miss any). Dunno why the comment box won't appear. Blogger has not been behaving lately. Can't wait to migrate to my own hosted space!
So... you gonna fatten up that turkey for a specific reason? ;D

So nice to have such visitors drop in. Great shots.
Love your turkey. Love the music that goes with it. Love your header and the name of your blog.
How about Misty's turkey eggs?
Beautiful shots! He would be even more beautiful if he was sitting on my dinner plate at Thanksgiving. :)
Great capture...my husband is a turkey hunter. He mounts the tail feathers...
Carletta: What absolutely great cptures of that big old Tom with the big beard. Loved your song.
The only turkeys I ever see are frozen in the grocery store.
I played too :)
One of my friends used to tell me that if wild turkeys cross your path it's good luck...so if they're hanging out in your yard - that must be the best luck of all.
How neat! I've never had one of those walk through my backyard.
all these critters must feel pretty safe in your backyard... cool shots!
Great photo with the turkey and squirrels in the same picture. Thanks for visiting The Gardener Side
The bottom photo looks like a scene out of a Disney movie. Wonderful post!
Both shots are spectacular! I especially love the last shot, where you got three really cool critters in one shot! AWESOME.
How neat is that! You're not gonna cook him up are you?
It seems to be a week for turkeys. Aren't many in this area, but once in a while a person can catch sight of one.
Very cute shots :) The squirrels don't seem too impressed, lol.
Nothing like free and easy food to bring the critters out! Thanks for stopping by Spatter...
Now this is a fine looking turkey come to visit you. Do you think he will be invited to Thanksgiving dinner?
