Hope everyone is still enjoying a Happy 4th of July weekend!
Today I'm participating in a meme hosted by Raven at Raven's Nest. Each week she gives out a list of random words to use in a complete paragraph. I've been promising her I would attempt it so here is my somewhat feeble attempt to be creative today. Clicking on the icon will take you to Raven's Nest.
This is the mini challenge using the five random words she suggested.
The mysterious stranger sat across the restaurant at a small table. I glanced at him frequently thinking I knew him from somewhere, but where? I noticed too that he seemed to look my way a little more often than necessary. Music from the nearby dance floor was a soothing old blues song and I soon got lost in its rhythm.
The waiter appeared ever so quietly at my table silently placing my filet of sole in front of me. I had ordered a lunch sized portion for my dinner; but what I saw was an elephantine plate of fish. I had come to this particular restaurant for its excellent dessert menu and by golly I was going to have that velvet cake no matter what! The gasp that had escaped my mouth startled my waiter. I quickly explained my dilemma to him.
“Look, it’s either eat all of this and have no dessert or take part of it home for later. I really want dessert so could you please help me out here!”
He didn’t seem sympathetic to my plight at all and with rolling eyes and a shake of his head he marched off to the kitchen to get me a carry out box.
As I was about to pick up my fork I noticed the mysterious stranger approaching my table. He leaned down and whispered, “It’s nice to see a woman who really knows what she wants. Do you mind if I have dessert with you?” As soon as he had begun to speak I knew it was an old and very dear friend from school that I hadn’t seen in over thirty years. We had been wonderful friends and had lost touch. I think my heart skipped a couple of beats. The evening was certainly getting better minute by minute. Oh waiter!

Sorry that you had rain on your 'parade' but it looks so green and the open door so inviting...is it any wonder Mr. Rain stuck around?
Sorry about Mr. Rain crashing the party. Pretty picture, though.
Loved your wordzzle. It was fun, wasn't it? I thought you did a great job. I'll add your name to Mr. Linky. Sorry it doesn't show up on your server. Computers are so peculiar sometimes. Anyway, thanks for joining in. Hope it was fun for you.
Good one. Did you enjoy the ribs and corn? Sounds wonderful.
I hate it when waiters are rude! Great ending! :)
Oh what a shame the rain washed out your day. I love your porch and garden though.
Your wordzzle was excellent but next week you really must carry on the story I want to know what happened next! LOL
Ah Carletta, you've been holding out on us. I see Romance Novels in your future. You could Illustrate them with your own art work. Great job. It rained here yesterday, but we went down to the beach anyway and had supper. Best laid plans and all. Pappy
I would have taken your rain if you could have sent it to me-we so need it here. I think you were very creative!
good job
A budding romance and velvet cake. Wonderful story.

Thank you for stopping by my attempts at joining the Sky Watch group. There are more of us retired teachers out here in the blogosphere than I imagined. I guess we still have things to say.
I'll stop back again.
love your story. and I too want to know what happens next. romance and smacking the waiter are but 2 possibilities ;)
sorry about the rain. your deck looks amazing.
An old flame rekindled. Nice story.
That picture has character. It's funny how we so often overlook so many things that are really pretty.
Writing is not my strong point so I don't think I'll ever try the story telling. :)
i think the rain made that photo special.
and i loved your story :)
I would definitely take away half of that waiter's tip! How rude! LOL
Great story! Well done.
I love romantic stories! This was so nicely done. I can't wait to see if you continue adding to it next week. I have to agree...chocolate cake and romance = hmmmmm! ;-)
Blessings,
Kimmie
Beautiful shot of your deck in the rain. Loved your story! Is there more??
I liked your story! I have been contemplating joining the fun, but for some reason I always manage to let such stories get out of hand.
I am sorry the rain pestered you yesterday. Still, he needed somebody to spend the day with, too.
This is a rough challenge!!
Loved your story, Carletta.
You did a fabulous job with the words girl! I loved the story and I wouldn't even attempt to do this LOL :)
Sorry for your rainy day :( we had it early in the day and then it cleared up...I hope yours did too!
Oh I like your story...and yes I love the deserts too :)
