Winter Rainbow

I took this a couple of weeks ago and had forgotten about it. Hubby had been to the doctor on a rainy day. When he returned home he shouted through the kitchen door that there was a rainbow out front. I grabbed my camera and took out the front door. The rainbow was very low on the horizon. I thought about getting in my Jeep and driving to an open space but rainbows don't last long so I just stood on my front porch and shot through the trees.I moved the camera to my right and this is what I saw. You can see in this photo just beyond the trees where it looks like the rainbow is almost touching the ground. As I looked at it I thought if I had been down under those trees I would standing in its glow.

Since St. Patrick's Day is Saturday it's fitting I should post these as a tribute to my Irish roots. My maternal ancestors can be traced back to 1667 in Londonderry, Ireland.

After The Rain

We've had rain for five of the past six days. However, last Thursday evening just before sunset the rain began ceasing and the sun shone brightly and we were rewarded with a big beautiful rainbow.

Of course I had the wrong lens on the camera and couldn't get a wide shot but there wasn't time to change it.
Rainbows don't wait!

Nature Notes Around The Yard

This week the skies have been full of clouds and my little part of the world has been inundated with lots of rain. Everything is lush and green. I know it won't be long and hot humid summer weather will set in and I'll be wishing for cooler days. Although today we are experiencing a very cool and wet 55 degrees.
As I walked around the yard in between rain showers yesterday I was able to notice a few of nature's delights that made me smile. One was how the raindrops on the bleeding heart leaves were like little diamonds waiting to be plucked and treasured. Oh, if only it really did rain diamonds!

As I followed the flowerbed around the house a small pink and white varigated bloom seemed lost among the spent azaleas.

The yucca blooms are very tall and will soon burst forth with lots of white blossoms.

Wildlife still abounds in my backyard. I caught this little bunny among the Rose of Sharon bushes nibbling away at the grass. A couple of days I have seen a crow walking gingerly in the grass too. Both times he is accompanied by a bird that dive bombs him repeatedly. I haven't yet identified the bird but the crow doesn't get annoyed easily and the bird is usually first to retreat.

Last evening I was lucky to catch a glimpse of a doe and her fawn. It was raining softly and they were at he edge of a grove of trees. They were too far even for my telephoto lens but even without the photo it was a marvelous moment.

When it rains I always hope there is a chance for a rainbow to make an appearance. I was not disappointed this week. In the middle of rain showers the sun popped out and there outside my sunroom was a rainbow. Actually it was a double rainbow but I couldn't catch the whole thing on camera. Nevertheless, it made me smile.

Sky Watch Friday

In my little corner of the world this week the temperatures have been pleasent and the skies full of fluffy white clouds.

A Double Rainbow (look closely)

I haven't posted this and wanted to share it today as well. It was taken a few weeks back. As we left the house to do some errands the weather was ever changing. One minute hard raindrops fell. The next minute a few sprinkles. As we rode down the road sprinkles misted the windshield and the sun popped up in front of us. I wonder if there will be a rainbow were the words spoken out loud. Looking ahead and left and right none was in sight. A glance in the rearview mirror and there it was. There was nothing to do but stop in the middle of the road, hop out, and snap.
