Wanted: A BIG Chicken Coop

On our recent trip to visit our son and daughter-in-law we stopped off at a farmer's market just outside Leesburg, Virginia. We bought a melon that was absolutely delicious with our breakfast the next morning. The whole time I was there I felt like I was being watched. I was. When I saw who was watching me I remembered Junie had posted a few weeks ago about a certain big guy she ran into on the streets of Athens, Alabama. There I was in Virginia and another giant poultry guy was making an appearance.
He stood straight as a sentry over at the edge of the adjoining fields almost daring anyone to get too close. My long camera lens kept me at a safe distance. We should be diligent my friends in observing the numbers of these poultry giants and where they're showing up.
I mean look at that sharp beak! Do we want to look out across the landscape and see masses of these giant domestic birds running toward us? I think not. So be careful friends and be on the lookout for beady eyed giant fowl. Oh, and keep those secret receipes handy. A giant barbecue just might be in the forecast!

Today's Flowers: Rudbeckia Snow Cones

It is time to post a photo of flowers. In the past few days my little corner of the world, along with many of you, experienced bitter chilling Arctic winds. Today as I sit and type this it is 31 degrees and with the wind it seems like 24 and once again pouring down snow. This is a good day compared to the -4 degree real low temperature of yesterday. You might say we're having a heat wave. In the midst of winter the flowerbeds are brown and empty. I forgot to pick up flowers at the market yesterday to share with you and since I love this meme I have improvised my entry today.

Below is a photo of the brown rudbeckia stems left standing in the flowerbed outside my sunroom window. The snow piled on top and made them look like little snow cones. I promise to stop by and pick up some 'real' flowers to post next week.

In the meantime, click the badge at the top of my post to see much prettier flowers from all around the world. Thanks to Luis, Denise, and Laerte for giving us this beautiful meme and thanks to you dear readers for indulging my interpretation of it today.

Sky Watch Friday - Where ARE my red shoes?

I took this a couple of weeks ago when the weather wasn't sure what it wanted to do. I wasn't sure I shouldn't head for cover! There were periods of light rain showers mixed with periods of sunshine. No thunder, no lightning, just awesome skies!

Winter Antics

We had a beautiful snowfall yesterday. I sat at my sunroom window and watched the silent flakes swirling and swirling. It was just one of those days to sit back and watch nature put on one of its most calming shows. I went through the house pushing the curtains back so that the stark whiteness of the landscape would be in my every view. As I pushed back the first living room curtain I thought I saw something on the ground outside. Edging closer to the window I saw this woodpecker with its beak trying to peck through the snow to get to the ground. I rushed to get my camera thinking it would be in vain.
To my surprise I returned to find him still pecking away with the snow whipping past him in the wind. Look closely and see the snow on this head. He practically buried himself. As I watched he hopped onto a nearby tree trunk. I felt so sorry for him. He appeared to be hanging on for dear life; his feathers puffed out in an attempt to keep warm. You can tell from my picture it was not a day fit for man or beast in the early March snowstorm; but, this little bird and his antics sure made my morning.
