Weekend Reflections of Friday's Fences

I had another image of a fence I wanted to post as well; but, Blogger isn't cooperating at all. I've tried to post this twice using the old and new interfaces but photos aren't uploading and once this was posted sideways. So, I'll just go with the one image.
In the above photo you can see my garden gate reflected in the garage window. Hubby has a piece of plastic film three-fourths up the window to allow for privacy. I like how it allows the gate to be reflected normally and yet it distorts it as well.
If Blogger cooperates I hope you'll be able to enlarge it to see it in better detail. Yes, that is me you'll see taking the picture.

The Tree Has Eyes

My computer space is in the sunroom which has a set of sliding glass doors on one wall and a large picture window on another. When the temperature drops outside I'm often cold sitting at the computer while I do my blogging.
Hubs came home one day with a heat lamp that he clipped to a piece of furniture behind me. One day last week I got up from the computer and noticed the light reflected in my picture window. I grabbed my window thinking I might get a reflection shot of some kind. As I played with the angle of the camera and the reflection I found the oak tree outside looked as if it had eyes. Since the window is double paned there were actually two reflections and pointing just right with the camera gave me the fun result you see here.
One more thing. Hubs playfully calls the lamp my 'chick light'. You see it's really a brooder light used for keeping baby chicks warm! And, all that lovely snow you see is now gone!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

I've been lurking over at a wonderful photo blog by Ashley Sisk for a couple of months now and have wanted to join in her Scavenger Hunt Sunday challenge and finally decided this week it was time to just do it! There are many wonderful photo entries each week so if you have some time check out Ashley and her readers.
Now for this week's challenge:

MEMORIES

I had different ideas for this one; but finally chose to use some of my dried roses. My husband has always brought home flowers. Sometimes a bouquet, sometimes a single rose. Having been dried they are very delicate as you can see by the stray petals; but they do give me sweet memories.

SILHOUETTE

I took this yesterday evening as the sun was beginning to set. There were faint tinges of blue and pink in the evening sky.

DOORWAYS

This is my granddaughter Lucy playing with the little house she got for Christmas. Wouldn't it be nice to enter the many doorways of childhood once more? I guess in some ways I do when I'm with the grandbabies.

REFLECTION

I had to go into my archives for this reflection. I picked the last blanket flower in my garden last fall and brought it in and placed it on a mirror lying on the table. It was a quick shot and not well placed on the mirror but I like it.

SILVER

My lovely daughter gave me this ring for Christmas. It is sterling silver and has my February birthstone.

Weekend Reflections: October At The Lake

Even though winter hasn't officially arrived we have cold temperatures here and snow on the ground with some predictions of an arriving snowstorm tomorrow night. I took these photos back on Columbus Day in October and then left to visit family for the past few weeks and have not been able to share them. Hope you enjoy the reminder of beautiful fall colors.

Under The Railroad Bridge

This is a railbridge bridge that crosses the Little Kanawha River where the Kanawha meets the Ohio River at Parkersburg, West Virginia. The bridge was first built in 1886 and is still used today.

Weekend Reflections

Hubs and I found ourselves in Gallipolis, Ohio this past Monday afternoon. I had researched the town and found that you could overlook the town and river by driving to a local cemetery. This shot is the view we saw looking down at the town and the Ohio River. We were standing on the Ohio side looking back across to West Virginia. In the background of the photo you can see the Memorial Silver Bridge we crossed over to get into Ohio. I originally posted about the bridge's past disaster in this post.

Looking down from the cemetery I saw these reflections along the bank of the river.
We spent some moments enjoying the view and as I went to pull away from my parking spot I glanced into the rearview mirror and this was the reflected view behind me.

Weekend Reflections

This week we have seen many days of rain or overcast skies. On Monday the rain had stopped and I stepped out on the back deck and saw this reflection of a geranium in the top of the patio table. This image is straight out of the camera. The dark reflection through the water gave it the natural black and white effect.

Slowly the sun began to come from behind the clouds and filter through the pergola above the deck. As it caught the top of the geranium I snapped a long shot showing the reflection of the geranium as well as that of the pot and the deck's railing reflected in the rain covered tabletop.

Weekend Reflections

Mr. Limpet is in my pond!

For those of you too young to remember 'The Incredible Mr. Limpet' was a fantasy movie from the 60's that mixed real-life and animation. Mr. Limpet was played by Don Knotts. Henry Limpet's fondest wish was to be turned into a fish. As a talking fish he assists the US Navy in hunting German submarines during World War II. When I looked at the reflection Mr. Limpet immediately came to mind. I can remember lying on the floor of my parents living room and being mesmerized by his adventure.

Watery Wednesday: Frozen Precip

Temps are still hovering below freezing as they have for days and the windchill at present is at nineteen degrees. In my little corner of the world any water remains frozen and with four inches of snow and sleet on the ground getting out just isn't an option. Today I've had to improvise on what might qualify as watery. How about a glass of snow?

My blogger friend, Rose, mentioned one day not long ago the irresistible urge to eat snow. That made me think of snowshakes my Mom would make us when I was growing up. You added milk, sugar and vanilla to a glass of snow. I bet some of you have had those. We always took the top of the snow from something flat as I did today.

If you enlarge the photo I thought the drops looked like an asteroid field in space and near the bottom of the glass on the left hand side what looks like a diamond chip. Oh if they were that easy to find! If you're going to sneek a little snow to eat you might not want to look too closely at those other little spots around the bottom. I was tempted to make a snowshake today. After downloading this closeup, I passed on the idea! :)

Sky Watch Friday: Photographic Reflections

I have been participating in a reflections photo challenge this week with Quilly. I wanted to be able to combine that and Sky Watch so this is my combination offering for the two memes. This is my Jeep sitting in the driveway. I took two angles. In the first photo you see the sky overhead reflected in the gate of the Jeep. Just below that you can see the sky behind me reflected in the painted section of the gate. If you enlarge the first image you can also see a reflection within the reflection from the rearview mirror that is right of center in the photo.

In the second photo you see our detached garage and trees from the nearby woods.

Wherever you are I hope blue skies are shining on you.

Through My Window Thursday With Photographic Reflections

These were the visitors I saw through my window this week. You can see the deer really are close to the house. If you enlarge this first pic you can see where a buck deer is lying in the grass to the left making himself at home. In the right side of the photo you can make out the the legs of another deer standing by the Rose of Sharon bush. There were six or seven deer on Monday.

These images are part of a beach scene on a wall mural at Granddaughter Lily's doctor's office. I loved the face on this little red crab. He sure looks like he's smiling!

Photographic Reflections

This window and balcony are part of a pre-Civil War plantation house here in Parkersburg. It was built in 1836 and always occupied by the same family. Not only is the mansion intact, the contents of the home are all there too. Everything has been saved, from letters, shopping lists, and business accounts to furniture, wallpaper, antique light bulbs, clothing, and shoes. More than 200 years of family papers were collected and have been saved.

Curtains made in the mid-1800s by the ladies of the house still hang in some of the windows. Henderson Hall as the house is called is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

I love how the old glass in the windows make the reflections look like they are underwater.

Photographic Reflections

Some days it’s tough to get a handle on everything one has to do. There are things that need to be done, things that have to be done, and the inevitable things that most of us would just like to do. It all needs put into perspective and sorted out to decide just what the course of action will be.
Where do you go to clear your mind and reflect on how and what you will get done in a day’s time? A lot of times for me it’s in the shower that I sort things out. First thing in the morning a nice warm shower wakes me up and gets my mind going. I can slowly wake up and think about the day and get my grip on reality. It works just as well at the end of the day too. Nothing like a hot shower to say I did what I could, it felt good, and tomorrow I’ll pick up where I left off.
Yep, a cleansing of the body and a little reflection of the soul.
