Turkey Vulture, Turkey Buzzard, buzzard, vulture - no matter the name these scavengers do their job even with a face some say only a mother could love. Coming home from the grocery store this week I rounded a turn and scared this guy from his afternoon road kill. He flew to a nearby tree and posed for me. He wasn't about to go very far from his meal ticket just because I wanted a photo!

Super shot. The feathers are lovely - and in flight these are some of the most magnificent birds. Plus they do keep the area nice and tidy.
ReplyDeletegreat shot!! love these guys!
ReplyDeleteA great shot! I don't find these guys so ugly. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess!
ReplyDeleteEvery day on my drive home I see at least 3 soaring above the canyon - never get an opportunity for a shot of them, though, so glad to see there's one out there willing to pose!
ReplyDeleteI think they are cool birds, Great shot, Carletta!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. I hope the bird was able to go back to its meal after you left.
ReplyDeleteYou sure got a good one of him! I am always afraid we are going to hit one...sometimes they wait for the last minute to fly up.
ReplyDelete...and you got a very nice photo. Yes, he/she did pose for you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shot. I think they're beautiful in flight.
ReplyDeleteThose uggy faces...but yes they do serve a purpose to us humans.
ReplyDeleteYep, homely critters, but they do an important job. And your turkey 'buzzards' are somehow better looking than the black-headed ones we have here. I still like them though, because they do a good job of what they do -- and besides they are pretty to watch when they soar. (Although Bill always reminds me to move a little bit, so ....)
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the vulture.
ReplyDeleteYep, a face only a mother could love! But they do clean up a lot of messes for us, don't they?
ReplyDeleteNature's natural waste cleanup. Such cool birds.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo, Carletta! Thanks for clearing up for me that all those names are for the same bird!
ReplyDeleteThe composition is superb Carletta
ReplyDeleteVery well photographed, so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteCool capture - I agree about the face only a mother could love.
ReplyDeleteThey are not a great looking bird - but I do rather like them!
