Wild Birds - Turkey Vulture

Turkey Vulture, Turkey Buzzard, buzzard, vulture - no matter the name these scavengers do their job even with a face some say only a mother could love. Coming home from the grocery store this week I rounded a turn and scared this guy from his afternoon road kill. He flew to a nearby tree and posed for me. He wasn't about to go very far from his meal ticket just because I wanted a photo!

  2. Super shot. The feathers are lovely - and in flight these are some of the most magnificent birds. Plus they do keep the area nice and tidy.

  3. A great shot! I don't find these guys so ugly. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess!

  4. Every day on my drive home I see at least 3 soaring above the canyon - never get an opportunity for a shot of them, though, so glad to see there's one out there willing to pose!

  7. You sure got a good one of him! I am always afraid we are going to hit one...sometimes they wait for the last minute to fly up.

  11. Yep, homely critters, but they do an important job. And your turkey 'buzzards' are somehow better looking than the black-headed ones we have here. I still like them though, because they do a good job of what they do -- and besides they are pretty to watch when they soar. (Although Bill always reminds me to move a little bit, so ....)
