I've been happy to see a Mockingbird at my feeders all winter. I have no idea if he has friends or if he is by himself. I have only seen one at any given time. Hopefully he has a partner hanging out nearby.
Here he hangs out in the wisteria vines waiting for his turn at the suet.
I'm not sure if that tongue sticking out is in anticipation of the taste or if he's attempting to give me the raspberry!
As he flew back up and settled on the wisteria vine again I think this time he was just trying to get that smidgen left on his beak.
The above capture was one of those yes, it's a gray and overcast rainy late evening kind of day and the window is awfully dirty but we have to do what we have to do to record the first robin of spring.
YES, they're back!!! Spring must be on its way even though as I type this I can see a light covering of snowflakes on my deck. I should have guessed. On Sunday afternoon when I took this my backyard was full of robins. I haven't seen one since. Maybe they were mocking winter. Winter may linger but a robin sighting gives me hope!

Great photos of the Mockingbird! And yes, you do whatever you have to, to snap that "first Robin of Spring" photo! I recently posted one, too. There is a whole group of them that arrived here, but they take off as soon as they see me.
ReplyDeleteyay for a robin! :) i've never seen a mocker at the feeders here. i guess because they can find bugs, still. they use the birdbath, though. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, a great sign of hope and spring. However, for an old guy like me who goes far off the trail, I find robins all winter. We get them every year in our Christmas bird count.
ReplyDeleteNice photos of the mockingbird! I will jump for joy when I see the first robin. I think it will be quick a while though.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous captures of the Mockingbird! A robin, gosh it will quite a while before we see them here!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the Mockingbird, I use to love the sound they made, when ever I stayed with my friend in Miami.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Gordon.
Really good shots of the Mockingbird. Fantastic.
ReplyDeleteAren't they interesting birds?:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of the mockingbird. I'm so ready for spring to arrive.
ReplyDeleteWonderful detailed photos of your mockingbird, Carletta! We don't have them here and it is a treat to see one up close. Strangely, we have had Robins winter over this year. So I don't have that special pleasure of seeing the first one. It is a true sign of spring! xo Karen
ReplyDeleteI wonder where all those robins went when they heard you were getting more winter after all!
ReplyDeleteMockingbirds are our morning alarm clocks here in Florida. Great pictures.
Wonderful birds and so amazing shots
ReplyDeleteGreetings
I've never seen a Mockingbird--I love the view from your window.
ReplyDeleteCarletta, great shots of the Mockingbird. I have never seen one at my feeders. Enjoy the rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteAwesome captures, Carletta. Every time I hear mockingbird, I cannot help but think of the song "Mockingbird Hill" by Patti Page. :)
ReplyDeleteMockingbirds are very territorial. If another shows, you may get to see them spar.
ReplyDeleteWe've had a Mockingbird around our feeders for the past few weeks. We too, have only seen one at any given time. I hope your robins aren't misleading you. We've seen robins all winter!
ReplyDeletefabulous clear shots of your lovely birds. Glad to see there is a hint of the season changing.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! I've been extremely happy with this nice weather but I see we are in for some more extreme cold...psssttt- that was a raspberry!
ReplyDeleteLove those mockers. We have one that sings outside the window, bright and early every morning.
ReplyDeleteWonderful captures, Carletta.
ReplyDeleteWe had a skim of snow covering everything when we got up yesterday morn, but it melted before the day was gone.
Funny, I so wanted to see a mockingbird as a kid and now they have spread all the way up the east coast. Robins are a treat now that I live in a Florida. Some winters we see none at all!
ReplyDeleteHi Carletta, great photos of the birds. I haven't seen a Mockingbird at my feeder in a very long time, though I saw many of them in Florida. Can't wait to see my first Robin of Spring :) Thanks for visiting and have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThe Mocking bird is such a soft color. - We had Robins about 2 weeks ago and then it turned rainy/cold again. I think they are toying with us.
ReplyDeleteSuper pictures, beautiful blog.
ReplyDeleteCarletta I absolutely LOVE your bird short, the clarity and macro are perfect! I only wish we were seeing robins right about now, that is generally a sure sign of Spring, but no robins here just yet and I don't blame them with this cold we've been enduring.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!
