Wild Birds in a winter that just won't stop......

This female pileated woodpecker was my lucky shot for this week. I have to thank her for flying in front of the picture window in my sunroom so that I would notice the unmistakable pattern of her black and white feathers as she flew over. Thankfully they registered with me quickly enough so I could grab my camera as she landed in the oak tree outside the window. She was also kind enough to pose such that the blue sky we had that ONE day was behind her. That dead limb needs taken out of the tree but I think we'll leave it a while longer for her to return to and I'm hoping she will.
Don't be mislead. There was snow on the ground underneath that blue sky.

In the meantime here are some snow scenes from the past week I thought I'd post before winter takes its leave (HA) and I forget to post them.

On this day the snow began gently falling at a steady pace and close to evening it was falling so hard it was almost blizzard like. No, my lens didn't get wet. I took this standing in my front doorway under the porch roof. I do really like how the lens picked up the snowflakes. Other than my watermark this is straight out of the camera.

Just four days ago after three inches of snow and below zero temps this was how it looked on my deck. There will be no porch sittin' anytime soon! After a weekend warm up you would have been hard pressed to find any ice or snow on Sunday.

BUT, yesterday morning my little corner of the world was blanketed with seven inches of fresh snow!! 

 Guess Puxatanny Phil was right and Old Man Winter is going to be around awhile longer.
