This was taken just over a week ago when we had snow. The last few days have been seasonable but our forecast is calling for snow again Tuesday night into Wednesday.
WV Water Crisis: For those of you who know I live in West Virginia all is fine here Round The Bend. We are about an hour away from the crisis and are unaffected. Water was beginning to be turned back on yesterday and will continue in sections. What you might not know is that each individual household must flush the pipes in their homes when the water ban is lifted for their area. You have to open your faucets, first hot water, and let flush 15 minutes. After that your hot water tank will be acceptable for use. Then you flush cold faucets for five minutes. Then, outside faucets, etc. You need to think about filters on refrigerators and other appliances. You need to run your dishwasher and washing machine empty for one cycle. The water company will need to watch how all that flushing affects everything before lifing the ban in the next zone. You don't just turn the faucet on and pick up where you left off. The infamous environmental activist Erin Brockovich is in town so I'm sure we'll be in the news for some time to come. :)
I want to send a sincere wish to all of those affected a speedy return to normalcy.

I hadn't heard about the crisis but I have just read about now thanks to Mr Google. It sounds an awful state of affairs. I hope it gets fixed before long.
ReplyDeleteThankfully you haven't been hit too hard. Take care!

I hadn't heard of a water crisis in West Virginia. I guess you'll have to do a post on it. It seems like a tremendous waste of water but when health is involved you have to be safe.
ReplyDeleteNow I did like your cardinal photo
the cardinal shot is lovely. glad you are NOT in the affected zone. such an awful situation for so many.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were not affected. I have guarded optimism about the return to "normal" after all of this and wonder what residual effects will show up down the road (wildlife, rivers downstream, latent side-effects of exposure not yet recognized). We too are just outside the parameters, though my husband works in the mix of it and we have family and friends suffering through it. A reality check to how dependent we are on daily conveniences.
ReplyDeleteYour photo is breath-taking. Beautifully captured.
A beautiful capture Carletta. Cardinals are so photogenic. I'm glad you have not been affected by the water crisis.
ReplyDeleteGosh, when I heard about that situation with the water I couldn't believe it. I truly hope no one is harmed by it now or in the years to come. Very scary. Anyway, beautiful red cardinal on the snowy fence.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo of the Cardinal in the snow. Yes--we are expecting more bad weather --but maybe not as bad as last week.
ReplyDeleteScary about the water crisis We do take things like that for granted, don't we? Glad you weren't affected.
I'm a little shaken. We had a near-miss-head-on car accident yesterday afternoon when a car was coming straight toward us in OUR lane. We swerved and went into the ditch. Luckily, we are fine and no damage to the car --other than being dirty. BUT--we were just lucky that the ditch wasn't steep…. SCARY!
Hugs,
Betsy
So glad you were not included in the area...I was wondering would the pipes ever really be clean.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful photo of the cardinal against the snow. Very well done.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you weren't affected by the water crises. I didn't realize so much was involved with flushing all systems once the ban was lifted.
Our thoughts are with all those affected. Hope "normal" returns quickly!
