Surprising Fall Flowers and Critters

Fall colored forsythia leaves and a bud and a bloom.
Perhaps a couple of days of near seventy degrees has them confused.

This is Chippy!
We thought he lived alone....
until we saw him on the deck and Chippy Two under the oak tree.

This little Wholly was crawling as fast as he could across the driveway. Can this little Woolly Worm predict the weather? Some say that the woolly worm, a tiger moth caterpillar, can predict what weather winter will bring.  According to folk wisdom, when the brown bands on fall woolly bears are narrow, it means a harsh winter is coming. The wider the brown band, the milder the winter will be. As this little guy scurried to get along the brown band stretched wider so I'm not sure what he was trying to tell me; but long range weather maps are saying there could be a snow storm for the Eastern United States as early as next week. Hope this little Woolly finds a warm place to go.

  1. Well, looks like little Woolly is well-prepared if there is a snowstorm. But I hope for your sake that there's not one.

That little chipmunk is so darn cute! But he almost looks like a little mouse with chipmunk markings. I know they're rodents, but usually I can't see the "rodent" in them. Still cute!

  2. Great shot of the chipmunk! They are so adorable. I don't think we could find any flowers around here...have had really hard frosts. Not sure what I believe about the woolly worm predictions. LOL

  5. oh I made a card many years ago of Chippy I call him.

    It sold well.

I added some Lily of the valleys as a boarder on bottom.

The chippy was taking a peanut from a neighbor. So I took it.

It was a real seller to the tourist time to our country stores.

So I like this pix ypou took..

  7. Chippy is very sweet with his little acorn caps....and I swear that caterpillar is pretty enough to wear! (It looks like a warm scarf). Those bands look wide to me, maybe the warning about an early and cold winter is a hoax!

  9. So far our forsythia bushes haven't gotten confused, although we've also had some up-and-down temperatures. Your collage is beautiful. I definitely hope no early snowstorms hit down here.

  14. You have had some bizarre weather. I came across a wooly worm recently and wondered what the forecast was. These look fairly wide, but everything I've heard is that it might be one of our colder winters in a long time. Who knows?
